The clairvoyants trick

I just seen the same exact trick that the clairvoyants from agt did on penn and teller. They knew how it was done, but didn't care to elaborate.

Were you expecting them to?

Penn's comments seem to indicate that the guy was giving some sort of code to his wife that clued her in to the nature of the objects. It was nothing I could pick up on though.

Not sure how they knew what that guy's mother's name was though (unless it was a plant). Only thing I can figure is maybe they did some prior research on the guy, assuming the seats were assigned. Anyone else care to speculate?

reply

Interested about the guy's mother's name too. The rest of it is pretty standard. Skillful, yes, but easy to figure out.
Also, this duo was far superior to the AGT Clairvoyant's because they were faster and cleaner.

Could the blindfold have been gimmicked somehow? I don't remember there being much attention called to it. Penn didn't mention it, but that could mean it was involved since he said he didn't want to give anything away.

reply

They only call attention to stuff like that if there's still a question of whether or not they were fooled. In this case, they knew they were busted, so it was enough that it was acknowledged that they were running across a tightrope strung between two skyscrapers while most other similar acts are walking slowly on the top of a train rail at ground level.

You know what noone tells you about cooking with the Dark Side? The food is really good!

It could have been, but as there was no need for it to be done that way, why bother to check? Acts like this have been going since long before electronic signalling devices existed.

Did you ever notice that people who believe in creationism look really un-evolved?

Penn was so impressed because he and Teller worked on this early in their career. They were using code with words and inflection. I picked out the mother's name..

As he examined the watch he said, "Can this be true...there is no engraving in the watch on the watch...and is there anyone else in this room that knows..."

And then he said something with an a. I was all proud of myself until I realized he had to know her name first to clue her in.

Then he said something like "Is there any way Tessa could know her name? And the mother's name was Cora. So I see what you're saying there, but yeah how did he know the mother's name?

Rmontro]~~yeah I believe the people are plants and through numerous rehearsals the first person in the audience that is picked,( For that night) will have an eye glass pouch. And of course the second one will have the certain item and so on. And when you listen to them talk to each other it always sounds a little mushy. I've followed magic since I was a kid but some of this stuff is so lame!

On the AGT 1st performance by "clairvoyants", the blindfolded woman sat on a suspended swing seat. it was suggested elsewhere online that the man was tapping morse code from toe switch in his shoe, and that she "read" the response thru her "seat!" This couple spoke in a lot of strange intonations. Though nothing I heard sounded like a clue. Maybe it was morse code-like- based no their vocal cadences?

Penn said they usually give hints to both let the magician know they weren't fooled and to give the audience something to Google. In this case, he wanted to say as little as possible because they were that good.

He pretty much said they were talking in code. He and Teller worked on a version of that early in their careers when they were together 24/7 and came no where close to their level.
