Using animals in magic tricks

My boyfriend and I went insane for Victor and Diamond's act in season one. However, I can't get over their use of live doves, budgies, and rabbits. I worked in a pet store when I was in high school and I found rabbits to be very fearful, high-strung animals.

I LOVED their act, but I am very concerned that it is stressful on the animals. Does anyone have any insight into the use of animals in magic tricks and how they are treated? I feel that being one stage surrounded by people, bright lights, and loud noises alone would be stressful for an animal.
