I felt Lucy was too mean in this one. It wasn't so much the writing but I think that she was voiced too much as a teenager rather than the six year old that she is. So where as her mean-ness usually comes off as a passive thing, she seemed downright cruel. Not sure why they went that direction with the character, but I hope they don't keep the trend for future specials.

I think anyone who would call a child that word needs to re-think their whole belief system.

But they definitely used the wrong girl for Lucy. If you watch her in the Great Pumpkin, her mean-ness is more innocent and typical "sibling rivalry" that can be overlooked by parents. But the Peanuts franchise was hit and miss over the years for casting characters. Sometimes Peppermint Patty was dead-on. Sometimes she was given more of a feminine princess persona, which was strange to me. Looks like Charlie Brown wasn't the only one who was Wishy Washy. Bill Melendez apparently was as well.

This wasn't a bad cartoon. It was indeed in spirit. But still, I could not stand the Lucy character. It was a VERY bad casting mistake. All the characters should have a "cute" quality that brings out the innocence of a child. It was the selling point of the early Peanuts cartoons. Much of that is absent in the newer ones. I would say as long as they keep making these, they will eventually go sour and ruin the franchise. It should be like a great figure in history. To stay on top, they must die on top. The same applies here. STOP MAKING THESE CARTOONS WHILE THEY ARE GREAT.
