Did Jack O'Connell lose a massive amount of weight for this role, or was a body double used for some scenes?

Jack has previously been known for his physique in previous roles, but he was very skinny in some scenes of Unbroken, particularly the one where it looked like Louis and Phil were about to be beheaded.

I haven't seen any mention of his weight loss anywhere, but it would be an epic feat if he did.

No body doubles were used, O'Connell did lose weight for the film but the rest was made up with make up and some cgi in the scene with Phil and Louie in the forest.
