Could this movie be any lamer?

take Trainspotting, remove the great characters, good acting, incredible music, interesting story lines, innovative directing and then you have..Ecstacy

Couldn't agree more.

But did Trainspotting have Pointless and Vanishing Characters? I think it was a little tighter than this charade. For example, we're introducted in the opening sequence to "The Girl With Pink Hair" and then we see her jigging about a few times in the first ten minutes on a dance floor. Then she's on the sofa with the rest of the crew and then, by magic, she's replaced by a brunette and is never seen again.

In fact, what happened to Hazel? First she was Lloyd's girlfriend and then not there for the most of the rest of the film and then only comes back towards the end.

Clearly even the roles of the characters hadn't been thought through for more than two minutes.

was thinking the same thing about her. why mention her in the beginning, with her name printed on the screen, if she's not going to really be seen again.

and how about the lead? zero charisma.

horrible movie

The trouble with the lead is that he reminded me of the Newcastle United defender, Steven Taylor, who alos looked wooden and confused at the best of times so that didn't help.

I couldn't give a fig for the lead, nor Solo who could have been an interesting character. As for Solo's boss that avenue was pointless.

In fact, apart from Billy Boyd being wonderfully obnoxious the rest of the characters simply weren't characters. Most of them should have been removed from the script in a tightening up exercise. And what on earth was Alex Lifeson thinking using this pile of rubbish for a cameo appearance?

More questions than answers.

Totally agree. I loved Trainspotting so much I've probably watched it about 20 x and I went to see a Trainspotting play on stage in 1999. So I had high expectations for Extacy and was so let down I turned it off in the middle. In this movie I was not emotionally invested in the characters whereas Trainspotting, I was even invested in Spud and Begbie.
I guess Irvine is a one hit wonder.

Can't see what a beautiful lady like that sees in that loser. Not that interesting of characters either.

One dose of MDMA can change your brain chemistry forever. Shouldn't be so glorified.
