The Underwater Scene

Can someone please tell me what Sylvia was doing to Dominick in that scene when you would see him in pain and blood was just shooting out of him?? CONFUSED.

Love the movie. Watching it for a second time right now. Would definitely recommend. But be warned: it's *beep*

I was confused about it as well. I thought maybe she was trying kill him in the game...or he was dreaming ('cause at one point it was their real life selves and not their avatars). I'm not sure. Maybe it was his confusion, as he was falling asleep both worlds bled together.

SPOLIERS

Just before she pushed him into the water, she was telling him he didn't really want to die.

So...to probe her point, she put him -his avatar, yes, but he felt like he was not separate from that - in a life-threatening situation. And for a moment, he did fight to swim to the surface. But then, he sees what she's trying to show him, and he gives up to prove HIS point.

At this point in the film, they look real instead of avatars. This symbolizes that THEY feel like this is now real, not online. They feel that connected. So we, as the audience, get to see them that way.

Then, she ups the ante by slashing at him, and making him bleed, like she did to herself on webcam. She's trying to make him fight for life, to prove he doesn't really want death. But he takes control, grabs her, and they make cyber love, which solidifies their bond that yes, they both want to die.

He wakes up in reality, with his laptop sideways, as if they are waking up in bed together. For him, they really made love. And she responds with a smile, so for her, too, it felt real. The feelings are real.

Then he plays with the pill bottle on his head. Like...a reminder. They now have this bond. He feels he's shown her he will give her the pills as she asked, he will die too. And they both feel happy for the first time in a long time, as is common when one decides on suicide. There is a relief, and sometimes happiness. And now they have each other to do this and feel this with.

Excuse my typo.... TO PROVE HER POINT, not probe. Won't let me edit!

Awesome explanation thanks. This is such a good movie that I really wish I could stop focusing on. It kills my soul.
