did i miss something in the previous episodes?

I'm pretty sure it's a totally random thing. They do that a lot (random things).

Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge.

SPOILER SPOILER

I Loved it when Hitler shot the talking dog. I literally clapped.

It felt to me like a one-off reference to Scooby Doo. Not only do you have this group of youngsters solving mysteries, but there's also Hitler's line, "I'd have won this war many times over if not for you lot," something that many of the Scooby Doo villains say after they're thwarted.

I think there's been a rape up there!

Hitler had a pet dog named Blondie.

Remember the Simpson's episode "The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show"?

It seemed like the same idea to me, where shows will create a new "hip" character to be fresh and strike a chord with the new kids.

Bingo. This ploy has been parodied in other TV shows as well.
