I've seen a few pages referring to Tucker as Australian.. this took me back because I don't remember him being referred to as Australian in the show and the actor looks and acts very English. I figured if he was an Aussie he'd be an offensive caricature like the rest of the cast, but he's basically the opposite of the stereotype.
Did they say this in the show and I just missed it?

It's poking fun at the fact that for a very long time Australian TV personalities and radio presenters all had what we would call a "posh" accent, which sounded far more British than Australian. At the time, the only people with the thick Aussie accent (imagine Crocodile Dundee) were country-folk and the lower class.
It sounds very strange now, but in the 60s/70s (ad prior to that as well), his accent was the norm for most Australian TV/radio.
