What happened to Pierre (2nd season)

It's been a long , really long, time since last time I watched first season. But I couldn't but notice the character change.

I don't think anyone has offered much of an explanation. I know Aldo's on A Place To Call Home, but to replace him with someone so different without even so much as a bad joke about his appearance has left a lot of people scratching their heads.

Original actor was unavailable, but I personally think that this Pierre works better with the current theme.

Yeah, the worst part is that they changed the character completely, not just the actor. Shame.

But in a later episode old Pierre and new Pierre met each other and immediately know its him from the future. LOVE IT

They explain it. He became a rich and famous musician between when WWII ended and the present day (1980's). What could possibly be left to explain?

Everything is an 80's pun - so Pierre becomes a MJ stand-in. No one is more famous!

I especially love how no one ever brings up the difference, even when they time travel!

I've only seen ep.1 of season 2 so far, but Pierre and Jackson reminded me of Crockett and Tubbs from Miami Vice. Maybe that's what they were going for?

Seriously, this series has made it perfectly clear that making sense is not at the top of the agenda. :)

David Ashby explains it in depth on this podcast episode (Sensible Chuckle podcast - http://www.stitcher.com/podcast/televised-revolution/sensible-chuckle/e/podcast-sensible-chuckle-david-ashby-episode-5-36846637).

Essentially Aldo Mignon was unavailable for season 2 due to filming A Place to Call Home. They came up with a few ideas like having Pierre be a prosthetic dummy or a robot, but decided it would be way too much work and instead decided to recast with Pacharo Mzembe. Pacharo was a great replacement to keep Pierre in the mix.
