The girl on the ice scene (possible spoiler)

That is never the way to rescue a person on thin ice. First you have them lie down facing the rescue crew, thus distributing their weight instead of concentrating it in a small area. Then you toss them a line with a loop and have the girl lasso herself with the line under her arms unless you have arrived at the scene with a winch device. In the movie, this girl was old enough to follow this command. Then the rescue squad would slowly slide her across the ice to safety. Observation indicates the ice was not cracking under her direct weight until the adult weight was introduced.

I know this is just a movie but it made first responders appear to be rookies with no supervisor.

I thought the dead daddy rescuer was going to know, at least, that he had to distribute his weight more evenly across the ice!

But I can see where they wanted to juxtapose the images of the two men popping up through the ice, one of them at the moment his life went into its downhill slide and the other one holding the little girl.
