Okay, WTF were those things they took out of Ashley

Ashley gets surgery for something that's removed from her lower abdomen... at first I thought she was getting an abortion, especially because of the way she was lovingly/wistfully caressing her belly before the operation. But then they're like cysts? But why the hell did one of them have blond hair or frizz-looking thing growing out of it? Just from a medical perspective it was disturbing and it didn't help that Ashley was borderline pretending they were her offspring.

She had a fibroid in her uterus. A fibroid is basically a harmless tumor of the uterus. It's a growth of the smooth muscle (wall) of the uterus. However, it causes very heavy periods and sometimes nfertility. However the tumors usually shrink with menopause.

The cyst was a cystic teratoma. Also harmless except for it can grow so big it compresses organs. Cystic teratomas are tumors of the ovaries. Because ovaries have egg cells, which are capable of contributing to all parts of a developing baby, these teratomas (ovarian tumors) can be quite interesting. Indeed they often contain human hair, teeth, bone, and mucus within their walls. In fact, they are called teratomas because they are so "terrible."

In this woman's case, her fibroid was has big as a baby's head, prompting her to say "i wish i had healthy baby growing in here, but...." its a fibroid.

Her cystic ovarian teratoma had massive quantities of blonde hair growing in it.

Look up pictures of benign teratoma "with hair" or "with teeth". They are nauseating. I've seen several in the operating room on gynecologic cases.

To me, Ashley's disgusting fibroid was an appropriate metaphor for her disgusting life.
