Took money from companies like Philip Morris, Monsanto and ExxonMobil and then promoted himself as an expert commentator. - James Hoggan, author, "The Climate Cover-up."

reply

And James Hansen took money from the Heinz Foundation, a pro-global warming outfit. Not to mention Al Gore has made millions by scaring people. I don't really understand how accepting grants from Philip Morris, Monsanto and ExxonMobil compromises someone's integrity.

reply

"I don't really understand how accepting grants from Philip Morris, Monsanto and ExxonMobil compromises someone's integrity."

Really? You don't understand how being paid by the people with a financial stake in the outcome can affect someone's integrity.

Next you are going to claim all the tobacco research Philip Morris did that said cigarettes were safe was in no way tainted by financial reasons.

reply

It is widely demonstrated that if there is money to be made in climate study, it is in the pro anthropogenic climate change camp. Pro AGW has generated north of 50 billion in research dollars. Orders of magnitude more than the anti climate change camp could every generate.

Certainly you are not naive enough to think that money on the pro side is virtuous while money on the opposing side is corrupting.

reply

Of course he's suggesting that money for global warming is virtuous. Liberals believe everything they do is virtuous and use it as an excuse. They tax earned money and give it to those who refuse to work. They steal money for causes like Global Warming and pat themselves on the back for their theft. Its a truly sad state of affairs.

You are a joke. Even if I accept your number, $50 billion is nothing.(By the way, $50 billion over how many years?) ExxonMobile alone made $40 billion in profits in 2010.

"Certainly you are not naive enough to think that money on the pro side is virtuous while money on the opposing side is corrupting."

There's obvious profit to be made in fossil fuels. The profit is being made right now. There's reason to lie about the science to protect that money. Name a single entity on the other side that that has $40 billion in yearly profits to protect.

But what does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

I was responding to your assertion regarding who is paying for global climate change research. Both sides get paid. One side gets paid more, substantially more. If the fact that Milloy got "paid" by a fossil fuel company invalidates his findings, then you MUST apply the same measure to the other side.

Additionally, I am discussing research dollars, not total company profits!? The total profits of Exxon mobile is not germane in a discussion of money corrupting research. How much pressure universities and research teams are under to grab some of those billions is however, very germane.

I am in the consulting business and work closely with many in the academic world, I can tell you the pressure to generate research dollars is astounding.

Yes. The pro-fossil fuel side pays more, substantially more.

An independent research scientist will get paid the same, regardless of which side their results support. If someone could come up with evidence that showed evolution was wrong, then that person would get a huge amount of money to continue that research. That's because the research money isn't tied to business interest.

On the other hand, ExxonMobile has business interests that are tied to only one side.

"I am in the consulting business and work closely with many in the academic world, I can tell you the pressure to generate research dollars is astounding."

You heard the exact same arguments in the tobacco debate. University research vs. tobacco scientists, which one should you believe? Or do you still think the tobacco scientists were correct?

reply

Please. Stop this nonsense that everybody who doesn't believe Al Gore's lies is in the hip pocket of Big Oil. Dr. John Christy doesn't take any money from Big Oil. He's paid by the government. He was also a lead author of the IPCC report. He doesn't believe Al's lies. AL GORE is the one making money off global warming. Watch the movie then make up your own mind. Don't be a tool for Big Al.

reply

I barely know where to begin.

Al Gore is lying? He is backed up by 98% of climate scientists. So are 98% of climate scientists are wrong? Is that your argument?

"Dr. John Christy..."

Is one man, whose opinion contradicts reams of scientific papers. We can tell what is causing the warming by how different layers of the atmosphere are affected. Funny how you jump to the defense of one scientist, but claim countless others are being paid off to lie about global warming.

"AL GORE is the one making money off global warming."

Al Gore made more than $40 billion last year? Because that's how much profit ExxonMobile made last year.

This same debate happened with tobacco. In the 1930s, it was known that tobacco was a health hazard. But even into the 1990s, there were still some deluded morons who thought cigarettes were safe.

Global Warming was known to be real in the 1950s, thanks in part to scientific studies done by the U.S. military. By the end of the decade, only deluded morons will still think it's fake.

reply

Al Gore is considered an embarrassment to the cause by climate scientists. Yes, he has made millions from carbon scams. Comparing him to Exxon is just retarded, lefties are like that.

His movie was shown to be propaganda by british courts, and cannot be shown in schools with disclaimers about mistakes.

Three More Years! Carbon Taxes! NSA!
