I love Spears

Love Jess but Spears he's my favorite. Wasn't sure to continue watching but Alan van Sprang is a great actor. Wished he had more screentime in season 2 though.

Anyone agrees?

Absolutely agree. I think they had much more in season 1. Their banter is awesome.

reply

Exactly. And not because of this fans-shipping stuff. Just because the tension between King and Spears was the thing that made this show special.

Now it's just another procedural. Her husband is boring, this family values propaganda is not exciting to watch at all. S2 is much worse because they of it.

reply

Family values propaganda?

Impressing upon viewers the importance of marriage and the safety of children isn't "propaganda"...

I think Spears' relentless meddling into King's marriage was portrayed appropriately as sleazy... excellent call by the writers and producers there.

The last thing we need is a show celebrating infidelity and compulsive gambling...
I am pleased to see that taken to task and honestly portrayed on film... most shows glorify it instead.

Hardly propaganda, just some writers with some integrity and self respect.

reply

I'm not talking about celebrating infidelity. I'm talking about the show that once has been interesting, but now is not.
I don't need infidelity, the show just functioned much better having that tension between the characters. Now it's just plain boring.

reply

Yes it's hard to come up with conflict between characters that are regulars without implicitly endorsing the behavior. The first season managed to get away with that. I don't think they could get away with it for a second season.. Hence the "family values propaganda".

reply

Well, Brenda in 'The Closer' is happily married, but her family life is not dull to look at. That's a good 'family values propaganda'. King and Danny are just painful to look at.
So I blame the writers, but I blame them anyway, because this second season is much weaker.

Good family values is NOT propaganda :

Sorry, but showing families that work WITH each other and work hard to solve their problems does NOT make the show's writers or producers out to harm you in any way... That's crap

There's nothing wrong with a show that portrays good family values.. there are TONS of them out there and the advice is SOUND.

YOU may find it BORING, but that does NOT mean the advice is counter-productive or in any way "propaganda"

reply

I find it really boring to discuss this all over again.

My point is: King's family life is shown boring and pathetic. It's a tv-show, so I want something entertaining. Again: in The Closer a happy family is fascinating to watch. In King I feel sorry for both spouses.
And I call it propaganda because the writers SUDDENLY decided to make this tv-marriage work. And it doesn't look natural, it looks like they try to fit this family into some box of society standards. The wriiters literally force those people to stay married, it looks unnatural.
I don't believe King even loves her husband, she just desperately doesn't want a 3rd divorce. And Danny is miserable all the time.

First season was very good, second is poor: cases are not interesting, relationships between the characters are not dynamic anymore.
Anyway, I don't want to explain my point for the 10th time, so that would be all for me. I suppose I won't watch third season (if any).

You don't understand what the word propaganda means..

Find another word.

There are no "society standards"... Everyone plays the family game differently.

Is it boring to watch?

Then suggest they add more conflict at home, don't' accuse the writers of spitting out propaganda... THAT is a blatantly false claim I would challenge.

Is their life boring compared to season 1?

Yes

My issue is with this "society standards" and "propaganda" crap.

If you find it boring that's fine, but don't' try to tell me it's propaganda. I will seriously challenge you on that point.

I don't think you know what the word propaganda means.
