Good movie, but felt rushed.

I liked the movie. Travolta’s acting was the strongest part of the movie. I thought he did great Gotti. But there was so much information crammed into a movie and no slow times to process it that it felt a bit rushed. I think they could’ve easily turned this movie into tv series instead and would’ve had much more time to develop all characters. And in a way it felt like a tv movie with all those real tv footages added. There were interesting choices on songs for the soundtrack. My favorite was Duran Duran’s Come Undone song.

Agreed especially since many still think of John Travolta as a television actor. (Welcome Back, Kotter, etc). Not knocking that at all though. I think Gotti was a case of too much information and not enough time to tell the story. My one criticism was that I went into this thinking Don Corleone but wound up with a combination of Tony Montana and Tony Marino instead.

reply

Yes. I too think it would have benefited from a mini series, because honestly if felt like a tv movie, not a theatre movie.
And old school mini series, back to back, not weekly.

I enjoyed the film.

wasnt good, wasnt rushed.

Gottis kid and Angelos actors were atrocious. Travolota was good I agree.

I get it was kinda like we were thrown In the middle of the situation (Paul taking power and Gotti replacing him ect)

but there was no clear goal, no clear beginning, middle and end. it felt like too many sliced put together without a clear goal in site.

This is my favorite gangster film, even better than The Godfather

reply

:S I mean if it was tighter and done in a goodfellas-esque story structure I think it'd be superior but I get why they chose to choose this important significant chunk they did in NY mob history.

thats why it suffers IMO.

they wanted to be realistic and tell us this certain slice of history, but also give us a film that focused on a protagonist. in the end is does neither well

but im clearly biased and love goodfellas.

like I said the John Gotti jr actor was fucking atrocious. the camera work was pretty bad.. why are they doing this like found footage style shit..

reply

I was kidding. This is without a doubt, one of the worst movies period. It has no coherent plot. And if you didn't already know the Gotti story, you would be completely lost watching this. Characters just appear and disappear without any detail on who they are

reply

never know man haha. that clown all caps Kowalski LOVES a bronx tale and thinks its amazing and that shit makes this look like goodfellas and godfather

agreed I dont know everything but knew enough kinda. not specific side characters but some of the main ones and even I was kinda lost

reply

Yea that Kowalski character not only loves to use all CAPS but he also calls out plot holes that are very clearly not plot holes

reply

I wish he'd call out plotholes in that shitshow "a Bronx Tale". he said "you only said you hate it because you hate it give me facts". there's one sconce where after a shooting detectives show up embarrassing fast and no one in the street witnessed the shooting, they all told the cops that they had witnessed this kid witnessing the murder.

its laughably bad, like an SNL skit

so I gave him a list of 15 things form my other post about the film. and he said "im not reading that!" and threw a fit and backed away like a child.
