Joe Pesci suing Gotti Film

Joe Pesci Suing Fiore Films Over Gotti: In the Shadow Of My Father

It's always impressive when an actor changes their physical appearance for a role, but particularly so when said actor goes to the extreme. I'm referring to actors like Robert De Niro, who, after taking the lead role in Raging Bull, gained 60 pounds; or Christian Bale, who, when cast in The Machinist, went from weighing a healthy 173 pounds down to a sickly 110. So what would have happened if De Niro or Bale had started their process only to be told by the filmmakers down the line that they would be playing a different role in the movie? They'd be reasonably pissed, and that's exactly what happened to Joe Pesci.

Deadine has learned that Pesci has filed a lawsuit against Fiore Films, the studio behind the upcoming (and recently retitled) Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father. According to the suit, Pesci was originally hired to play Angelo Ruggiero, John Gotti Sr.'s right-hand man, told to gain 30 pounds, and was offered $3 million. Later, however, after Pesci was promoted as being part of the project, they gave him a lesser role and offered him only $1 million. The suit reads as follows:
"Defendant has no intention of paying [Pesci] $3 million or having him portray Ruggiero in the film. Rather, plaintiff secretly planned to use [Pesci’s] name and likeness to promote the film and then to later concoct some pretext for terminating the contract so as to avoid paying plaintiff anything for the substantial publicity and ‘buzz’ that was generated."
In a statement to the Associated Press, CEO Marc Fiore said, "Before we had a deal, Mr. Pesci walked away." Set to be directed by Barry Levinson, who replaced Nick Casavettes, the film stars John Travolta, Al Pacino, and Kelly Preston.

This story leads me to believe that nobody over at Fiore Films has ever seen a Joe Pesci movie. If they had, they would have known that you should never *beep* with Joe Pesci. It may all be fake, but I've watched that guy punch Frank Vincent to death so many times that I'm convinced he really has it in him. Bet the next detail that comes out about this case is that Mark Fiore called Pesci, "a funny guy."

Not surprised,given the casting struggles!!!

good for him.....they basically used his name and contract to get other investors to sign on and be apart of the film so it would have more budget...more promotions etc and then basically said 'thanks for helping us get everyone to sign on...o and we're knocking your pay down also since your name got us promoting help'

they def. are using him and screwing him over so good for him. And it's not like he's a talentless guy asking for 25 million.

That movie is not going to get off the ground. Pesci has friends one of them being Al Pacino. If he walks the movies over and he might walk.

You can't make an epic movie from a screen play and still get good people. You have to write a book on the story first to get talented people to play in the movie. So who are they getting to play Angelo Ruggiero. Vincent Pastore I am guessing he played him before in Assante movie. He was great in that movie but he is not a Pesci.

something tells me that this movie is going to be canceled. joe pesci is already left or is ready to walk. rumor has it pacino is following him. i hope it gets sorted out and FAST. pesci should win this case because he was the first person to be associated with the movie and they go around and do this? thats false advertising smh. And you know to be honest i also think that pesci gaining weight has alot to do with this as well. you know cause the guy put on the weight for the part. had he not gain the weight he probably would have took the gaspipe part but ask for a little more money.

if they need some one to play gaspipe go get casella he fits the charater perfect imo.

Man, this sucks I was actually looking forward to this a little bit, especially since Pesci and Pacino had never been in a film together before. So is Pesci completely out of the project or do you think there is a chance that he will stay if an agreement is made? Oh well, I was actually hoping that THE IRISHMAN was going to be released during this time period instead of Gotti. As excited as I was to see Pesci and Pacino together, I am even more excited with the concept of those two legends plus De Niro and Scorcese.

IDK if they were going to screw Joe Pesci over like that I really think this movie doesn't deserve to get made... at least by these producers.

I agree. What the hell are they screwing with Pesci for? They're not just screwing with him, there screwing with his fans, the ones that are going to shell out for watching this film. This move doesn't deserve to be made anymore, I agree. This is an insult and an outrage.

Right. Got my interest there. It's been a long time since Pesci starred in the kind of movie he does best. And then alongside Pacino. But it should be common sense by now that somebody always has to screw up one way or another. Nobody ever stays focussed on creating a quality effort with the right players anymore.

That movie, like so many other similar films rumored to be made, will go the way of the scrap heap.
