Now what's the point of letting the main character own a Tesla Roadster if they are going to make it sound like it has a gasoline engine?

No point at all. That's why they gave him a Lotus Elise instead of a Tesla.

Incorrect sir. The car he drives is a Lotus Evora. You can clearly see the the lotus letters across the boot and the rear window and shape are unmistakable.
