So they have now rebooted DOOM

A pity i would like to see DOOM 4, but they now have rebooted the hole DOOM games.

It looks good, hope it's more like DOOM 2 then 3, i liked DOOM 2 more then DOOM 3.

Wasn't Doom 3 a reboot tho? Experiment on Mars gone awry, portal to hell opens up. Doesn't seem like a continuation of "hell on earth".

Some of the demons are still similar to Doom 3. Hell Knight and Revenant is almost identical. Lost souls too.

reply

Are you implyiong that that makes it not a reboot? Or just that it's "sort of" connected to the earlier games?

Maybe. Maybe this Doom is on a alternative Earth.

"Maybe. Maybe this Doom is on a alternative Earth."

At times it seems like this is the case, but I'm not too sure. I'm pretty sure this is an all-new scenario with no connection whatsoever to previous "Doom" games.

Idk., reading reviews and saw some trailers: even a short glimpse and it seems like they're re-using (parts of) levels from Doom 3? o.0

Graphics, shown here on iMDB, are lookin' to be nothing special?! Were they running it on a console, or something?!

Doom Reboot Puts Action First, Story Second

^^ And then, there's that... Going to hang on YouTube a bit and watch some game play, I guess.

Edit: Looks bad (?), meh.

Only from a single glance.

"^^ And then, there's that... Going to hang on YouTube a bit and watch some game play, I guess."

Keep in mind that what's shown on YouTube doesn't represent what the game actually looks like in person.

Yeah, I did, I was wrong (?!), blah... Only, DOES it -really- offer something "new" - instead of, just, some gimmicks? o.0

I was there (!), to play DOOM on a Pentium with a turbo button (LMAO, 33/66MHz) and all throughout the years... Later, some (Doom, Quake) tournaments, in competition (at a local Internet cafe :)), and so on; however it went, it's been a long time to remember it all.

... IDK, I want to like it; & I guess that I will have to try it and then pass judgment, heh. Only, you know, the new Wolfenstein games (for example), they were something special, right - here, not getting that vibe; like, at all, meh.

Edit: Remember Quake 4 - it was pretty sweet (for that time), right?!??

The Wolfenstein games were cool, but were pretty different from "Doom", especially this current iteration. With the latter, id's trying to go back to their roots, which means far fewer/no cutscenes (though there's tons of collectibles and story/lore items), all-out insanity and guns. I get what you're saying, though.

The Hell Knight looks like his "Doom 3" counterpart. Same with the lost souls from the "Doom 3" expansion. The Revenant, though, not really; in "Doom 3" they had extra wiring around the shoulders, had what looked like some kind of translucent, almost jellyfish-like skin, with green eyes and were about as tall as regular humans. This new iteration is taller (and arguably grosser-looking).

^^ Right, you see... "Arguably" better. Not "awesome", "cool", "great"!! Dunno, if the game is any good, or not. :-f

Edit: err, any good, for a DOOM game I mean (missing ID software!)

To me they look pretty cool, but that's just my opinion. The thing, though, is that Revenants are just walking skeletons with shoulder-mounted rocket launchers - it's hard to screw that up.
I like the in-game explanation for it - that was something that had always bothered me with the originals and "Doom 3".

Oh yeah, and it's more ruthless, violent and brutal than ever.

Cult Leader my minds frightening, I drink blood from a human skull like a Viking

reply

No, its lame generic BS. Sure its fun repetition for awhile, but not what DOOM was all about; no coop, no modding, no more then what twelve enemies on screen, instantly despawning bodies, all gore and blood is removed right away. This game is DOOM in name only.

This is the filthy casual version of DOOM, if you want the best modern DOOM you get Brutal DOOM where you fight a war, not some small skirmish.

"This is What You Want... This is What You Get"

"no more then what twelve enemies on screen"

Probably more. You have to keep in mind that with the DOOM games of old they were using sprites, which didn't require a lot of memory. Nowadays, though, we're talking about 3d models with various details, along with a variety of effects including smoke, fire, sound, music, viscera, etc. And of course, depending on how much is going, this could result in frame-rate drops - not good if you want to have a fast-paced FPS like "Doom" running at 60 FPS.

"all gore and blood is removed right away."

Yes, never mind the piles upon piles of dead bodies and viscera throughout the facility and Hell.

"no modding"

There is customization.

"This game is DOOM in name only."

Oh shut up with that fanboy crap - it's "Doom", get over it. It has all the staples from the series - Hell, the Doom Marine, weapons of all varieties including the chainsaw, shotgun and the BFG9000, and plenty of demon a$$ to kick.
