My theories as the movie progressed

Hey, this is a fun thing you might try when watching something on netflix. Open up notepad and write down whatever theories you're having at the time.

The rough time around when I was having these thoughts are the minute marks

5:30 the bus crashed and they're dead / in purgatory

9:00 Aliens abducted the two of them and the world around them is a replica zoo habitat they made

13:20 Slipped into an alternate dimension when bus crashed

14:30 Freddy has been obsessed w/ Ana since childhood and somehow managed to abduct her either with science or supernatural powers

20:00 the people in the diner are just recorded, projected images

21:30 Ana's Aunt Lu raised her and her parents died. Something to do with their relationship

27:00 No longer think it's alternate dimension because Freddy mentions this theory at store

28:00 they're both in linked comas, March 17 is when they pull the plug and that's when the mist closes in

28:40 Now they think she's in a coma since they heard the recording, he's going to try to wake her

31:40 Now their theory catches up. Maybe if they try to exit the gray mist, they reappear back inside

42:00 oh my god are they living one of his comics? that would be so lame

44:00 there is a reason they're both creative types, comic artist / playwright

And then when they basically figured it all out, I stopped writing my theories. It was most fun at the beginning when there were more possibilities to what it might be. What were your early theories?

I assumed the monster would turn out to be Ana's aunt. Her aunt died while wearing a monster mask and playing the part of a monster, so her spirit could be trapped in the personification of Ana's invented monster. When Ana got all fearless and faced the monster up close, I assumed she would reach out and pull off its monster face and see her aunt. Then the two of them would have a moment. In my personal headcanon, I still believe it was her Aunt, and she just never realized it.

That actually would have been an improvement. Nice thought.

SuperheroLu,

You'll probably never see this, but I say: Kudos!

Especially at 44:00.

I am a real fan of this movie. Saw it late morning after an insomniac night of bad films, and I loved it.

Cheers to all of you,
Fiona
