The three naval officers in the picture are:
Yūichirō: Umi's father, killed during the Korean War. Before that, passed orphaned Shun to Akio.
Tachibana: Shun's real father, killed during the Second World War.
Akio: Shun's adoptive father.
The captain was Onodera, who happened to know all the three men.
Having just watched this I'd almost agree. :)
Captain Onodera was the third man in the photo. He recounts the tale of knowing both their real fathers, including the time they had that photo taken.
Akio, the tug boat captain and the man who raised Shun, was not in the photo. He knew Yūichirō but was not part of the close-knit trio.
I'm a little confused how you wouldn't know. Did you stop watching before he told his story about how he was friends with the fathers of Shun and Umi?
