Has anyone seen the Descent? Was the scenes mid-way through the game intentionally an homage to that film? I can't help but stack up the similarities, the pick-axe kills, the blood pool scene...

I definitely noticed that too. Someone on ign told me that the producers may have used that as an inspiration. I didn't notice similarities until the blood pool scene, with her head slowly coming out pretty much exactly like the movie, then I started noticing everything else (pickaxe kills, her turning from an innocent explorer to a complete badass killer in survival mode, etc).

The head coming out of the water like that was hardly original in The Decent.
That film took it from a more famous and much better film...

And so, God came forth and proclaimed widescreen is the best.

The head coming out of a pool of blood was, not water or mud ;)

I also noticed on the soundtrack that there's a track titled The Descent. I'd say it's definitely a homage. And a freakin' awesome one at that!

The blood pool scene?
You do know when she slowly comes out of the water and sticks half her head out, thats a reference to Apocalypse Now, which was also referenced in the same way in The Decent.

Seriously the second she jumped in the pool all I could think of was that part in The Decent! And it was like it didnt even phase her either like the girl in the movie haha. I guess falling into a pool of blood is like the new character transformation thing, you go in weak and scared and emerge strong and bold lol you know?
