Camilla...Shut up. Just shut up.

Just got the game (and a PS3) two days ago for my birthday. And although I'm enjoying the game so far, every time Lara opens her mouth I want to shoot myself. Camilla Luddington's voice simply does not match. She's so friggin' whiny and moany, it literally makes me feel sick. Her accent, too, is annoying as hell. She doesn't sound British at all. She sounds like an American trying to emulate an English accent and failing. I'm not saying Camilla's a bad actress, she's...OK-ish; it's just her voice.

Maybe I'm just an old fart, but I really miss the days when Judith Gibbins and Jonell Elliot did the voice for Lara. Both of these actresses, Jonell in particular, were my favourite. They were what made Lara great for me. Now, before you all have a go at me, I admit Keeley Hawes' voice is good, too. In fact, I think she's blooming fantastic. But Lara, and the franchise overall, has never been the same since Jonell.

I feel better now.

Hahaha well put! I thoroughly agree with everything you just said! :P

I'll treat you the same way you treat me... you're call. :)

A Brit, that sounds American, trying to emulate a British accent? Didn't see that one coming.

reply

Meh, I thought she did a great job. Each to their own.

I think so too. She's lovely. Whines a lot, that's true, but that's hardly the actress's fault.

Sad story. You got a smoke?

made me wish for a male protagonist.
After all, it's tomb raider in name only.

reply

Agreed, I dont know what it is, but something about her voice just bugged the crap out of me every time she spoke.

I found out her type of accent is called Mid-atlantic english. She's a Brit but she's been living in the US for awhile so it's a mixture of the two accents

Well, the actress is supposed to sound whiny. This game is what Lara Croft was before she became the adventure seeking, gun totting, Tomb Raider. Personally, I thought she did a great job.

When I first started to play the game- I was a bit put off by her voice as well. Nothing wrong with her voice per say-- just that it wasn't Lara Croft to me. At times, I did think that it was an American actress who forgot to do the accent once in awhile.

But it wasn't as big of a deal to me as the game progressed.

I do have to say though- is that if these games continue (and I really hope they will) they need to mature the voice as they mature the character so it does sound more like we might expect Lara to sound.

Yeah, I know that its a reboot- but you still don't change everything in a reboot.

Same with me. Initially I found her voice too... uncultured and teeny, but as I progressed it didn't bother me so much. Sort of grew on me. Whenever she describes the artifacts it sounds rather pleasant.

Agreed. Lara needs to sound posh again. Someone like Keira Knightley would be an ideal voice casting for the next installment. A bit older but still young and genuinely posh-sounding.
