People don't want to see a gay Playboy bunny

Amber Heard totally ruined the show for me. I get that she doesn't want to label herself "gay" but don't tell everyone your dating a woman, then do a TV show that embodies the male fantasy.

I agree with you. And Sean Maher is also gay and used this show to come out. Plus the show brought in the part about the gay story line. I think the show was promoting more stuff about gay than about the bunnies themselves. I didn't know who Amber was or that she was gay, or who Sean was or that he was gay, until after I watched the first ep and then came on the IMDB board to read about the show. That's when I found out. Seems that's all I see mostly about the show and I think people were expecting more about the 60s era and the bunnies and less about that. I still was enjoying the show itself though and but wasn't surprised that it was cancelled, though I thought it would have gotten more episodes at least.

Maureen isn't gay, so why does it matter that the actress playing the part is?

Isn't Amber Bisexual though?

I don't see your point seeing as how Neil Patrick Harris is openly gay and has a partner and they adopted a child together, and he plays a womanizer on "How I Met Your Mother" and it's one of CBS' top rated shows as well as one of the top rated shows on television

Ellen DeGeneres partner Portia de Rossi has had nothing but success with all her series and she's played straight women as well as when she was on "Ally McBeal" and she was brought on that series as the hot blonde lawyer alll the guys in the office wanted, and it was announced last week her series "Arrested Development" was being brought back for one more season to catch people up on the characters, before the theatrical film "Arrested Development".

They're actors, and they're not suppose to be the characters they play, I can list the number of times I've heard actors talk about an actor who always plays villains, and how nice the actor is in real life, the actors that play villains are generally a lot nicer in person, and nothing like the characters they play. There were several actors who always played villains or cowards after WW II, but in real life they had been real war heroes during the war.

A good actor can convince you they're the character they're playing, how many high school dropouts or high school graduates move to Hollywood and get cast to play lawyers, scientist and other professions that require some brains. A lot of these actors have know scientific or legal background but you would never know it.

Henry Winkler was afraid of motorcycles yet a played Fonzi on "Happy Days", and the character was suppose to be a biker, and only rode one for a few scenes, and in the opening, other than those few scenes he was always sitting on the motorcycle, wheeling it in from outside or standing by the motorcycle.

I doubt most of them were really cowboys in real life yet they played them on television and in movies.

Are you really telling everyone that you're so limited in your imagination that you can't have a fantasy about an attractive woman you most likely would never get even if she weren't gay, because she's gay. I've seen many women on television and in real life that I had fantasies about but and I knew I would never meet or have one being that some of them were involved or married.

It's a fantasy, how many guys wanted Pamela Anderson when she was on "Baywatch" unless they were a rock or movie star none of them were going to get a shot with her, all the guys she dated were either actors or musicians.

I've never watched a full episode of Neil Patrick Harris' show but I think the idea of a gay man, playing a straight man, who uses woman as sex objects to be equally ridiculous.

Now Thomas Jane is admitting that he had sex with men for food when he first came to Hollywood. Aren't their any straight people in that town?

I guess they should go to a prison and find real life criminals to play murderers, rapist, pedophiles, tax evaders etc..

Unless Johnny Depp spent time with the Somali pirates, i don't know where he learned to play pirate since they're the only pirates in the world today. By your way of thinking they should also only hire professional athletes to play athletes in films or real musicians to play musicians and singers, because in some films and series the actors didn't always sing or play the instruments, and I have seen singers and musicians act and just like some actors can't play an instrument some of them can't act.

I'm pretty sure Tom Hanks isn't in the military or ever serve, let alone be an astronaut or hit man.

It's called acting for a reason, not you have to be whatever in order to play the role. When was Johnny Depp ever an undercover cop at a high school?

We have all, at one time or another, been performers, and many of us still are - politicians, playboys, cardinals and kings. - Laurence Olivier

Something is ridiculous, but it's not Mr. Harris or Ms. Heard. Don't scrape your knuckles trying to think about it too much.

Yet he does it. It's called ACTING!!! :) GENIUS!!!

How I Met Your Mother is still pretty funny after many years. Mostly due to NPH. He's probably the most popular character on there and has books based on his character.

Well said. I didn't think people really looked at a character's real life sexuality once they were watching the show. I definitely think having gay actors in this show is the reason why it got canceled. People just refused to give it a chance and rather dismissed it as a Man Men knock off.

Most people didn't know Amber Heard was gay, Hollywood did and it has hurt her getting roles as a romantic lead. She'll be Johnny Depp's female lead in "The Rum Diary".

Why it was canceled and links to what was going on with Comcast, NBC and the PTC saying the series was showing pornography apparently Comcast the company that owns NBC made some promise to the PTC not to air pornography on the network, the PTC and some other religious groups also went after the advertisers and that thread and links can be found here.

The series is still filming episodes because they want to shop the series elsewhere, Cibrian got hurt on the set yesterday that thread is found here.

As I stated elsewhere there was no nudity, partial nudity it was a very tame series. I don't know what the PTC define as pornography?

There have been straight actors who have played gay characters as well as what is now called transgender roles.

John Lithgow in "The World According to Garp" played a transgender and Mr. Lithgow was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, and William Hurt who played an effeminate homosexual man in "Kiss of the Spider Woman" Mr. Hurt won an Oscar for Best Actor for the role.

Ummmmmm, everyone knew she was gay because she went to a gay event before the show aired and said she was dating a woman.

No they didn't.

I wasn't aware there was anyone on the planet who could speak for "everyone", you can't say "everyone" knew she was gay since you can't speak for everyone now can you?

If "everyone" knew she was gay, why are there threads on her IMDb page and on this page with threads debating whether she is or isn't gay?

The fact that it's a debate would mean not "everyone" knew she was gay.

I never saw the event where she stated she was gay, I saw it on an AP or Reuters news tweet, but I don't assume that "everyone" follows those new services nor would I assume they had seen the event.

I don't follow entertainment news, as do a lot of other people, and it's not like she's a household name either.

Most of the actors on "The L Word" weren't lesbians in real life Pam Grier, Jennifer Beals, Marlee Matlin, Kristanna Loken, Lauren Lee Smith, and they did have some actors who happened to be lesbians in real life.

For people to say they didn't like the shoe because of the gay characters, than how do they explain the success and popularity of "Glee" which has three gay male characters one is still in the closest, as well as a bisexual female character, and the most popular actor on the series is Jane Lynch, she's a lesbian in real life and she's married, her character on the series has only dated men. I also don't think until "Glee" most of the general viewing public knew Jane Lynch was a lesbian and she's be around for awhile but this is her most famous role besides her guest stints on "Two and Half Men" as Charlie's psychiatrist.

You only know Amber heard likes women if you know Amber Heard. As in follow her. I'm pretty sure there are people that didn't want to watch the show because of the network it was on and other reasons.

If you didn't want to watch the show because you're an idiot and can't realize that actors are ACTORS then that sounds like a personal problem. Don't come saying it's because the actress or actor is gay playing straight. People think about girls and girls all the time so if anything that's probably a good ploy for the show and for a playboy.

I'm pretty sure you didn't watch Lord Of the Rings because Andy Serkis wasn't really a creepy creature right? Or Planet of the Apes because wasn't a real Ape. Y'all are ignorant.

I wonder if theyll read this & say that awkward moment when I wasted my life readin a signature. :\

reply

Are you kidding? How would anyone even know she's a lesbian? And why would anyone prudish enough to care be watching this show anyway?

reply

And even more of them switch-hit.

My only problem with Alice was her high-pitched & whispery little-girl voice. I couldn't even see women wanting to be with her.

reply

So, cause shes a lesbian in real life, she has to be one in all her roles? Apparently thats whats being explained :/

reply

Personally, I didn't know Amber Heard was a lesbian until I came on this board ;\
Nonetheless... that isn't the reason it got canceled.

Eric Stonestreet on Modern Family plays a gay dude but he's all straight in real life.

reply

I'm sorry, but you're an idiot and you sound extremely ignorant with every post you post on here about Amber ruining the show because she's a lesbian. Her being a lesbian shouldn't affect anything when watching the show. It's not like she is playing a lesbian Playboy bunny. She is just a lesbian playing a straight woman. Her being a lesbian doesn't mean she can't play a straight woman. Believe it or not, not every lesbian is butch and not every gay man acts like a woman and is feminine. I knew she was a lesbian before I watched the show and I actually forgot she was when watching the show. She is an ACTRESS. That is what she does, she acts.

Plenty of straight men/women plays gay characters and plenty of gay men/women play straight characters. Both Eric McCormack and Sean Hayes are straight men and they both played gay characters on Will & Grace. They played those characters for 8 seasons. Neil Patrick Harris is a gay man who plays a straight man on How I Met Your Mother and he has been playing that character for 7 seasons.

How is a lesbian playing a straight woman ridiculous? You saying that just makes you look ignorant and homophobic. These people are actors and actresses. They are paid to act like people they aren't. And that is exactly what Amber is doing.

reply

Precisely. And to add to that, people keep referring to homosexual women as 'gay' when the correct term is 'lesbian', only furthering the ignorance.

reply

Uh, you do know can say gay or lesbian for a woman, they're basically synonyms. Some even prefer being called gay.

reply

With at least one being an all-out lesbian. Go figure.
