I watched the entire thing and I can't say it got any better. Nothing actually happens. And before some idiot jumps in, I'm not at all saying I need tons of action and explosions (I mean one of my favorite films of all the is The Station Agent, which if you've seen it you'll understand) but not only does nothing happen, but the characters themselves are so dry and boring it's almost painful to watch. I don't care about any of them, their issues or whatever because we're given absolutely nothing to care about.

the station agent is one of my all time favorite movies as well, but i loved this movie and the two follow up's to it.
and YES i am an American. ( should surprise several people that have posted in this thread )

this is an honest portrayal of intelligence work, it is mostly very boring and consists of primarily reading reports compiled by other people that spend all day reading reports.

Bill Sighy always seems to mumble/grumble his way through roles and his character, Jonny, is supposed to be getting along on charm! Perhaps he uses his watch to hypnotise people, but those scenes were cut, just leaving the bits where the audience are sent to sleep.

The rather jazzy and upbeat title sequence masks the fact that this was a glorified stage play.

OMG!! A stage play? You mean dialogs, plot, complex characters and... discussions and no James Bond crap??? How dare they?!

I assume all of these negative super boring comments are coming from Americans, and therefore people with an attention span of less than 3 minutes. If it doesn't have a car chase, murder, or other form of explicit violence, or the story line is not explained for you in detail, so you don't have to think... well that makes it boring does it?

Interesting that the "American" comment is made here.

As a Brit, I watched Page Eight recently and about an 45 minutes in, I was starting to ask "is this actually going anywhere" so it's not just Americans asking the question

Now, I'll freely admit that 95% of the TV I watch these days is US stuff...

On that, I do wonder if I've just become accustomed to that way of story telling. Not that it needs an explosion or car chase, but that those shows are somehow presented in a manner which either drops more hints early on as to where the story is going or is flat out designed to engage the viewer immediately so they don't switch off and is written in an "obvious" manner.

I was brought up with shows like Poirot and Yes, Minister and get the impression that Page Eight was written in the traditional British way (if there is such a thing) of television production and story telling

There's touches of the Eddie Izzard sketch where everyone has a stiff upper lip of the "Don't Go, Daddy...please stay and don't head off to the war to fight those horrid Gerry" variety in the way this is written too.

I'm reasonably happy with how it panned out over all and I'm off to watch the other two parts of the trilogy to see how they compare.
