What happened to the direct address?

S1 had Marty freezing the scene and breaking everything down for you. Now that's gone? They certainly haven't used the magic they had in S1 in this current season.

And what's up with the forced crush Kristen has on Cheadle? C'mon writers.

Yeah, maybe they could have toned the 4th-wall-breaking down a bit, but I miss those moments

Yeah you still catch Marty glancing at the camera now and then like the Matt Damon episode (funny as hell) but no more mid-conversation everything just stops kind of 4th wall breaking. I agree those were the best. I guess the writers thought it was too distracting and got rid of them.

I was thinking that this recent episode of how I missed Marty stepping out of the scene and narrating...

That had the same stylistic feed as the UK show Hustle. As both teams were really conning their marks/clients I really thought this show was an American remake/reworking during the first season.

Well it looks like its back in a big way this season! I think every episode has gone to a big direct address and the last episode had Marty hitting up somebody weed which was funny as hell. It was smart to bring it back.

I agree it's enjoyable and impressive. In season 1 it was used to explain jargon and culture of the consulting biz, but to keep using it that way would be a bit condescending. I like how it's being used in S3 to narrate. They also seem to be longer and more spatial, and it seems like at least some of the other characters are just holding their mark. I'd enjoy seeing how it's being done.
