Claire Danes challenges our ideas about what "beauty" is..

Her muscular angular face... the proportions..

At certain angles, she looks positively "ugly,"

What do you think about Carrie's beauty?

reply

I don't think Claire Danes is a beauty, not even in a unconventional way, which I assume is the purpose of your post. Even glammed up at awards shows, I just don't feel any type of reaction to her looks. nothing remarkable or striking to her appearance.

I also remember in Season 1 noticing how thin and stringy her hair is. She can't help with what she is born with, maybe just a shorter haircut would add volume and a darker blonde shade.

Is Claire attractive? Of course. But personally I don't find her to be a beauty.

(As an aside, I thought the actress playing Fara (Season 4) was a total knockout. WOW!)

reply

Yeah I totally want to go straight for her and switch teams when I watch her.

reply

I personally never thought she was attractive and used to have a strong negative reaction to her features when I'd see her in movies and magazines. Then I started watching Season 1 of this show, in which I thought she could pass for unconventionally pretty (her skin looked beautiful and her expressions were sweeter). However, she's developed many distracting lines on her face since then, giving her a very stern look, and her posture's come to accentuate her lean, lanky figure, so I don't find her attractive anymore. I actually do think she qualifies as "ugly" for an actress, especially because her role isn't traditionally feminine, but in real life she's probably better-looking than 80% of the population.
Anyway, who cares? She's a fantastic and underrated actress who carries the show like a true talent. :)

reply

What the hell are you talking about she's probably better looking than 80% of the population?? I just walked into the dollar store and so one of the most beautiful girls at the checkout counter and I can honestly say she was far more model material that Claire Danes could ever hope to be. So that statement is not true. Perhaps people in Hollywood just think she has talent and at least a certain level of sex appeal that they hire her.

reply

Well, she's the main character because she produces the show. Not every female lead needs to be smoking hot.

I actually prefer female leads like her because she's believably attractive for the role.

A show can be good because the story and writing are good, the characters need to be believable.

Good point.

It's actually a little enigmatic that she was the T3...the whole idea of having a female Terminator, was that she was all the more deadly because she was female and hot, thereby, I guess, potentially disarming to men.

I mean, that was some years back now, of course, but Claire Danes, so far as that goes, as discussed, is not THAT hot.
So if the machines were going to make a hot terminator...why would she only be..."believably hot"?

Why not totally hot, so hot that some guys might even get off being blown away by her?
Or don't the machines fully compute "hot"?

Obviously the idea was a *beep* up, and was dropped, because I can't remember any more new-improved now-much-hotter female terminators after her.

That's not a very smart comment. She was the lead character from day 1, long before she had a producer credit.

What a sad thread. People blasting a great actress' appearance for absolutely no reason whatsoever. What is the reason to engage such a conversation?

Interesting... you couldn't help yourself engaging in the conversation, and yet berate everyone else who has.

And I don't know why you chose to write that in response to my post - I never said she wasn't attractive and I never said it mattered.

Quite the opposite, in fact; I merely said that it's not believable that all of these FBI agents, forensic investigators, CIA agents, etc., are always so smoking hot. Claire Danes is attractive, physically, believably attractive for the role, and that makes it better than when they pick somebody "smoking hot."

I said not a word about her appearance.

I responded to your completely baseless statement. Re-read my first sentence. I can re-print the key part: "She [Claire Danes] was the lead character from day 1, long before she had a producer credit."

I'm a mid 20's guy and I think she is smokin hot honestly...

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and that's not just a catchphrase. Some people cling too much to the idea that "Beauty" has to mean this and that instead of actually thinking on their own.

Every time such thread pops up you get people posting they like her very much and those who think she is ugly. That's probably the best answer to this question, it all depends on what you like. If you say something like "X is not very beautiful" you are not making an objective statement, but expressing your opinion. Stop deluding yourself that it's anything more than just your own opinion.

And yeah I think she's hot.
