Patricia Neal

I read on here that Patricia Neal passed away. I had no idea. I just loved her work and will miss her.
...and I absolutely love this movie.

This pilot movie for the series sure made the show itself seem so inferior.
Watered down seriously, with actor changes, and less of an authentic feel.
Maybe they should have stuck with various seasonal movies with Neal and left it at that.

As much as I adored the series, I'll agree with you, Paul.
You know, everytime "The Homecoming," begins, I actually cry!
I wish they'd make a movie of "Lizzie's Blue Ridge Memories," and give it a similar, style or feel. I guess I'm just a pathetic softy !!!!

It really is wonderful, isn't it? I've never been much of a fan of the series but this pilot is very much loved in our home.

I feel the way you do about this movie. The style and feel is what makes it unique.

I'm so glad to read the few comments here from those who understand how wonderful this movie is. Although I enjoyed the series there is just something about the movie that has a timey feel about it. I guess the word you used was authentic. I thought Patricia was wonderful in the role. It was good to read this here because on the youtube video of this movie several commented negatively toward it and talked about how they were glad that Olivia and John and the grandfather were changed.

Thing is most of these people apparently did not see the original pilot movie when it aired. I was a child the age of the younger kids in the movie when I saw it and I remember that feeling this movie gave the TV series did not have. Those who are commenting are used to the 10 yrs of series and movies and are so used to that they can't view anyone else in the parts. But this was the original movie that start it all and I can still view it on its own separate from the TV series and see how good it is. It is sad that people who are used to the series cannot give the movie the chance it deserves.

Patricia won an award for her role in this. She was so fitting for the Olivia in this movie. I also had enjoyed Andrew Duggan in his TV series "Lancer" which ended the yr before he made this. It was sad that he doesn't show up until the end of the movie for such a brief time and we were unable to see him portray John throughout the movie.

Although I did enjoy the series, there's nothing like the TV movie that started it all. :) My fave Christmas flick.
