There's a lot of wastage on this show.

There's a lot of wastage on this show.I mean,Buddy literally THROWS cake away!!!

Like when the contestants had to make a cake and brought it to the roof, after which Buddy dropped the cakes off the edge of the roof.

I mean, imagine all the money he wasted!!!

I should have known those alien maggots booby trapped this sub.

I agree about the money angle, but also just in terms of food wasted, it's sickening...don't tell me there wouldn't be a lot of happy homeless people if Buddy delivered (provided he could sneak it past Nanny Bloomberg) one of those 'loser' cakes to a shelter, instead of destroying it like he was on Mythbusters

reply

Glad I'm not the only one that thought this. I've volunteered at a homeless shelter a few times serving out meals. The desserts served there weren't pretty, but as long as they were delicious, the people at the shelter didn't mind. All those "ugly cakes" he threw away during the challenge where they had to make "groovy cakes" could have been put to good use. The homeless wouldn't care if there was "yellow on yellow". As long as the cake wasn't burnt or gooey, it'd be ok with them.

Yeah, I saw the beginning of one episode when they were doing the "groovy cakes", too. I'm glad I'm not the only person who thought this. Couldn't he fix up the smudges and such and sell them? Or the ones that the colors weren't right or the fondant was a little cracked, couldn't he sell them at a discount in his store? I'm sure people wouldn't mind buying them that way. Donating them is even better. I cringed every time he just threw them in the trash.

I've always hated how these competition shows waste food. Especially Hell's Kitchen. Something slightly wrong and in the trash. I know they can't sell it, but at least give it a chance to be eaten if it's still edible.

They could give the cakes to shelters, donate it to non-profit organizations for events or birthday parties. By donating it, the bad cakes wouldn't reflect badly on his business. People would know they were made during a competition ad people have a sense of humor about that stuff. Shoot, I'll bet there are fans that would mind being at a "Reject" section set aside to enjoy the stuff that's rejected. Lol

some of the "bad" cakes in the Groovy Girl challenge still looked fantastic. I found it pretty disgusting to see perfectly good food go to waste like that.

reply

Yep I agree. Especially the episode where they put the cakes in a truck and a stunt driver ruins the cakes. If the challenge is about "how to fix cakes after they're ruined", he should have at least ask them to make something small so you're not wasting so much food.

Also I don't know why he made them create another cake in 3 hours...a better challenge would be to fix the ruined cake in the truck. Especially since he just end up ruining the final cake -.-

reply

I don't think there was much left to save.
But I'm on board with the waste. I wish he'd donate them to some needy people or something. Sure it's not the basic bread meat and water or anything, but it'd at least lift their spirits a bit. Hell, make it part of the competition, loser of the episode has to serve the cake at the shelters. I'm fairly sure this would drum up huge huge support for the shop

reply

I agree there's a lot of waste, but he does that to increase the drama on the show. More than likely the producers come up with those stunts. They could at least donate the cakes to shelters or take them to a children's ward in a hospital or something.

Oh and to the person who said he should sell them at a discount in his bakery...have you been watching? Buddy only sells perfection in that store though and the amount of traffic that comes in there just from fans of his show I don't think that he would want to put some of the contestants cakes in there.
