Did Buddy know about the sabotage and cheating Gretel-Anne did?

and if so, when? does anyone know when or if (especially in relation to the eliminations) Buddy gets to see (at least) the footage we see and the cut-in interviews? I can't believe he would want someone who would purposefully try to sabotage their team's cake because they had immunity, to work in his business...who knows what else she's capable of?

also, if Gretel-Anne's business was in such dire straits (and after seeing how she conducts herself, is it any wonder?), how was she going to be able to spend a year as Buddy's intern in NJ? I guess the $100k and magazine spread would have helped, but she couldn't have worked at both places, and what about her family? do they all up and move? does she go to Jersey alone to work, leaving her family and business behind? IMHO, the win and the prizes help Ashley much more, since she is young (and really mature of you, Gretel-Anne, that last comment about 'day care,' yeah, maybe Ashley had an attitude and couldn't get along with Paul, but she was fine with everyone else, and at least she didn't cheat), does not yet have a business, and (having been a model), obviously has no problem up and moving somewhere, so once she finishes her internship, she can find a market where she can start a bakery, without a family (I know she had a fiance in the audience, but he looked young, too, maybe he'd go with her) to tie her down

If Buddy does find behavior like that funny and acceptable, then I will stick solely with Food Network in the future. As it is, this season of "Next Great Baker" was practically unwatchable with such a pathetic band of amateurs (including a profound cheater) and idiotic challenges. If cheating and sabotage are new elements being added to mix, then I'm done. (And for the record, a truly "great baker" would want to be judged on their talents and skill, not the ability to carry out underhanded tricks.)

This. I hope when it comes down to brass tacks Buddy didn't know about any of the underhanded crap till after the season ended. Having an attitude like that that dishonesty and cheating is to be rewarded, I think it would reflect on his bakery, and from last I saw, he wants his bakery to be the best and have a winning rep

I think that may be why Buddy chose Ashley over Gretel-Ann. His entire family wanted Gretel-Ann over Ashley because of Ashley's reaction to Paul's question. I wondered if that is why Buddy went against his family and chose Ashley. He had to have found out at some point about the crap Gretel-Ann pulled.

I actually wonder what would have happened if Buddy had picked Gretel-Ann and then found out about her blatant sabotage after. Would he have kicked her pathetic and sorry arse out of his training program and ended his association with her? I would hope so.

I find it almost impossible to believe that Buddy didn't know everything that went on. In the finale he even applauded Gretel-Ann and her "gumption" Buddy wanted to have people on the show cause tension and drama. And this turned me off. BIG TIME

reply

Yuck. I like Buddy, but supporting someone as awful and dishonest as Gretel Ann IN ANY WAY makes me like him a lot less. It's too bad, too, since he genuinely seems like a nice guy. But how could he allow that kind of behavior?! Obviously those who watched the show wouldn't have, since TLC was innundiated with e-mails and tweets from angry fans furious over Gretel Ann's pathetic and disgusting cheating.

I believe he knew based on his comments to the camera. He laughed and said something like 'what about the ingenuity(or whatever) of Gretel Ann?' He basically praised her as a fierce competitor. That finished it for me. I watched the show to see talented bakers/decorators show what they could do, and the best would win. I wasn't interested in the sabotage and cheating. GA kept saying this was a competition and no one else understood that, but I'm not sure why she thought "competition" meant "allowed to cheat"

Buddy knew and I doubt this show will go on much longer. This isn't survivor.

I agree, the quality of the cakes the bakers/decorators have turned out has gone down steadily as each season passes, they probably got all the best people out there for the first couple of seasons

reply

Well, in all honesty, anyone that's good enough to really make this show work is going to already be employed doing that elsewhere. This competition wouldn't hold many rewards for that type

respectfully disagree, it was free advertising for them and their shops (if they already owned or worked in one), because they would say the name of the place in the taped packages they did introducing the bakers, along with the 'glamor shots' of their previous work

reply

I doubt it. Who's going to risk their name being associated with the mess this show has turned into?
