I expected it to be better,is this meant to be a great film?

picked this up cheap in a second hand shop.
I hoped it would be good but was a bit disappointed,I did not expect just an action film but the non action parts were not good either,the film was made 5 years after the events,maybe everyone in France knows the details of the events but I could have done with more background.

I have read a bit about Algeria and France and the French police system but still felt the story was confusing at points,did they really know who the terrorists were and so on?

It was made 17 years after the event. The only thing we know is in the movie.There was no trial no investigation because almost everything happened in Algeria. However the judge, who worked on that case and on the terror campain which happened mainly in Paris 6 months later,believes that the terrorists were manipulated by the algerian secret services in order to get help from France against the Armed Islamic Group.

Thanks,I had forgotten about that programme,PETER TAYLOR is a great journalist,works for the BBC and has written a lot about terrorism.
