Baklava is not greek!
I hate when they do this in all western culture movies. It is Turkish and it will always be. I just hate this movie the moment I heard this.

This is a weird objection. Baklava actually comes from ancient Assyria--a country that did encompass some of what is now southeastern Turkey but which also included portions of what we now call Iraq, Iran, and Syria. Baklava is still popular in all of those countries as well, and all of them could claim it as "theirs" just as much as Turkey can.
Itinerant merchants and sailors brought it around the Mediterranean and Middle East regions, and it arrived in Greece around 300 B.C.--which is a very long time ago! So while you are correct that it didn't originate in Greece, it has been a favorite dessert in many other countries besides "Assyria" for, literally, millennia. share
