Don't bother!

For a movie billed to be horror, thriller and mystery, this checks none. Deceivingly, the first 30 minutes builds up a very dark and promising atmosphere and then it's an utter, flaming train wreck. This movie fabulously fits only one genre, Rubbish.

Don't be a low hanging fruit, bro.

OMG a whole hour in the treehouse where absolutely nothing happens, what a borefest.

reply

I completely agree with all comments made on this thread. The movie was a borefest from start to finish.

If voting was available i'd give it a 3/10 and i'm being kind.

waste of time.

seems none of you know what suspense is and need to be fed gore very 5 minutes to make a film seem good, go and watch some 80s classics like the thing, stand by me and even modern classic like pontypool then watch this again and realise that this film is ace

reply

You are kidding right? I don't like "gore fest" movies very much myself so that is not the reason I didn't like this movie. Treehouse had NO suspense, it was just boring. Halloween (original 1978 version), that was suspenseful and scary, this was down right awful with bad acting, bad plot, lot of scenes that just dragged time wise. I seriously can't see this coming out in theatres, direct to dvd yes.

I recall the immortal words of Socrates when he said, "I drank what?"

give small film makers a break, not everything can be the next citizen kane, this is a decent horror with a great build up, as for bad acting, seems you didnt watch this very closely, dana melanie was superb

reply

No you're trying to save a sinking ship-- it was boring and not at all decent

reply

There was no horror at all. It's closer to a mild thriller. I do think, if it would have been labeled as a (psycological) drama, some reviews might have been kinder.

I'm all willing to give small film makers a break. And, like I wrote in my review somewhere else on this board, the cinematography was not at all bad. But this movie just isn't very good.

Reshoot the last scene, or at least cut the nonsense dialogue, dub the lines of at least Officer Morgan and Crawford, because the delivery of some of their lines are painful to watch, relabel it as a psycholigcal drama, and it might save the movie somewhat.

The brothers were good too and I didn't find anything wrong with the dad's performance either. People just like to go with popular opinion I think.

You're the one kidding, philsings. The acting in this is better than in alot of movies today that don't feature big names. You need to get out more. And I find it incredible that most of you are condemning this movie. We download alot of movies and at least 60% of them are worse.

See, I pay for the movies I watch, so maybe I have higher expectations when I shell out $8?

This was such a stinker, 2/10. And before anyone tells me to get back to Michael Bay etc, know that one of my favorite recent movies was Absentia (shot for under $200,000) and Indie horror is my favorite genre. I can forgive not showing gore because there was no special effects budget. I can forgive a lack of score/music, "night" shots that were obviously done during the day, choppy editing, and less than stellar acting. But THIS was (and I don't throw this term around often) the WORST movie I have seen in some time.

Well done low-budget movies: Monsters. Proxy. The Signal. House of 1,000 Corpses.
Terrible low-budget movies: Nightmare Man. Lords of Salem. THIS.

They're coming to get you, Barbara!

The movies that actually need our financial support aren't generally worth the price and the ones that are worth the price are made by greedy Hollywood elites that have never seen a struggle in their lives and don't deserve our money for their arrogance.

With that said, I commend you on the use of the word "movies" because I'm so sick of pretentious IMDb users saying "film" to seem more cultured and have their opinion carry more weight as such.

I liked Treehouse's story(let's throw out the terms "narrative" and "film" PUKE) as well or better than Absentia, Monsters and Proxy(PC gay agenda). On the other hand House Of 1,000 Corpses is a classic and Lords Of Salem is complete GARBAGE!

Really now, are you having a laugh?? What about a grown, obese man sitting on the young girl's chest, pounding on her face with his fists followed by the girl getting up and running around like an olympic athlete? What about how it ended with the two kids standing on the roadside channeling their inner John Rambos? Or what about three rednecks firing gunshots at a wee li'l boy and failing, only to be chased down by the boy the very next scene? Which of the many such exemplary moments appealed to you? And you dare call the others out for lack of taste?

reply

...funny that you'd accuse others of being gore hounds when you've given 10 star ratings to some of the most violent & gory films I've ever seen (and, for the record, given low scores to movies that actually are suspenseful and require a brain to watch...)

Sorry, but the film you obviously know somebody associated with--the girl's brother maybe--made no sense, people doing & saying some really stupid crap and it is boring. It's mislabeled, it's neither horror nor suspense and drags on with a nonsensical finish. At best, it's a drama that's more suited to a tv airing.

reply

are you seriously comparing this movie with the likes of the thing, pontypool, stand by me???

ridiculous!

reply

the movie had alot of potential, the first half hour or so built up some nice suspense but then after that it just became boring and never went anywhere

reply

The Treehouse bit was boring but i blame the shambolic script that resembles kids programmes like 'Are you afraid of the dark'. The acting by the boy and girl was actually pretty good all in all despite sections of over acting - probably down to the director, but again it's the script that makes them look worse than they are.

It does resonably well to gradually build tension. A large part of that is thanks to the outstanding score which is by far the best thing about the whole film. Second i felt was the cinematography. Really good either side of the treehouse section.

I was about to give up during that treehouse section but when they decided to leave i gave it another chance. It was good before, and It does get better after that.

It will score low, but it was a good attempt on a small budget so i hope people don't judge it too harshly.

Quick shout out to the composer (composers?) again though as that was some great scoring.

reply

I agree about the score. Especially the music during the closing credits.

This movie is bullcrap.
