...get fired and were replaced by a completely different crew for the second half? I don't think I've ever seen a film change so dramatically in quality mid-way.
This had a rather good first half until they got out of the treehouse, then it really felt like it fell apart. Acting, dialogue, scene composition. What happened to the crew?! Pretty good for forty minutes and then it's student film time. A real shame as I was quite into it before that.
The score was consistently good though. Hats off to the composer.
I agree about the quality changing halfway through, but I have to disagree about the score. It was irritating as all hell, and it never ... ever ... STOPPED. Not during dialogue. Not when we're supposed to be listening for their pursuers. Not during a calm moment. NEVER. The same suspenseful music, while nothing suspenseful happens for 15 minutes. OMGosh ... so much overkill.
I hated it, though, so maybe I'm biased. 2 out of 10 (I gave one star for the camera appearing to work properly).
I agree. Pretty involving 'flick until they reached the farmhouse. Then everything crumbled. Pretty much every cinematic foible in existence was thrown in. Unnecessary flashbacks; hokey lines, an unnecessary cliche romance. As well as the random and bizarre; like the cop they inadvertently kill and don't give a sh#t about. Was I the only one laboring under the illusion that the antagonists were supernatural in some way?
I mean, a couple of years in Juve'? He looked about 24, and has just massacred and strung up people (including a young boy); and you think he's gunna get a couple of years in Juve'?
The score was consistently good though. Hats off to the composer.
I actually disagree. The score that kicked in when the hectic, boring chase scenes began sucked the atmosphere out of the whole movie. Was like something out of a Bourne film.

interesting.. i was thinking the same thing except for me the movie seemed to change tone dramatically once the two brothers find the gal up in the treehouse.
I thought Dana Melanie's initial scene was done well, as well as the film's introduction of the two bro's and their arrival at the woods etc...
It all fell apart for me from that point onward. While I like Dana Melanie and think she has potential, her and the younger brother actor were really not up to carrying the movie from there out. Not just their fault tho.. much of the plotting and dialog was so crazy I'm not sure that De Niro and Streep could have pulled it off!
