Do people really think this is good satire?

If you think it's funny, fine. I mean I completely disagree but that's not the point. How does anyone think this is a good satire of our political system? It's just crude sex jokes, jokes about effeminate men, etc. just dumb humor. There's a little bit of "elections are bought" stuff but it's not well executed. It hits the same couple actual political jokes over and over, with no real commentary or deeper examination/exploration which is what satire is supposed to do.

Well, I used to think at wasn't really a good satire. Now that the whole Trump/ Cruz thing is going down... yeah, I think it kinda is.

I don't think it was trying to go that route. That was clear 5 minutes into the movie, they went the over the top route.

It's pretty hit and miss but I liked it.

i don't think it intended to be overly satirical for the simple fact that it didn't lampoon many real people or events. For instance they easily could have had Ferrell and Galifinakis parody many southern politicians but they didn't. You could argue that Ferrell is somewhat of a parody of Bill Clinton but that's a stretch.

If you can get past the humor aimed at the 13 year olds in the audience (which they mostly get out of the way at the beginning), there are some amusing jabs at political maneuverings, etc. You can recognize the real life parallels they're satirizing. And I'm impressed that they addressed the issue of outsourcing jobs to China. I can totally picture a politician in real life defending that by calling it "in-sourcing."

It has a style like other Adam McKay written movies. There's a lot of screwing around for the most part, then it becomes serious for the last 10% or so. Whether there is real intent on trying to get the audience to think about important topics, or it's covert satire of 'message' movies, I don't know.
