Re: Through a Camera Darkly

I obviously realise why the attack on the compound occurred in darkness, but most of the scenes in this movie took place in semi-gloom. Whether it was the torture scene at the beginning, the restaurant which was bombed , even Jessica's kitchen , everything was badly lit. I accept that the film deals with bleak matters , but did the Director have to remind us in every camera set-up ?

I watched this last night. It was like watching through Ray Bans, I found
myself leaning closer and closer to the TV and having to rewind scenes.

If I had paid £14 to see it in a cinema, I would have been rather irritated to say the least.

I completely agree. I could hardly follow the compound attack because of the darkness. It was as though the director were filming those scenes through a black nylon stocking or something. Perhaps directors do this to make up for a crap set or something. It is overused to say the least. The film The Crow was very dark and the viewer could see everything. They should use that as how to do dark right.

I agree - that was the one aspect of the film that really annoyed me. There was no reason they couldn't have used the night vision throughout, they used it at times but for some reason, they decided do have other parts in complete darkness which made it almost impossible to follow.
