Staggered by the low rating

This is an engrossing film. So much tension you could cut it with a knife.

Excellent performances.

I can only assume the low rating is due to the fact that not many people have seen this film to date.

Yeah, I agree. I've just watched it.

Defo 8/10.

I just finished watching.....I almost gave it a four but gave it a five instead. I have to give it some credit because of the Kubrick feel. But I fell asleep way too many times while trying to get through it.
It just isn't worth more than five stars, imo.

reply

You gave it a star for everytime it made you fall asleep, right?Hmmm,in that case,i give it a 12!

You,Sir,are a mook!

Staggered by the low rating? It's not even the best home invasion type movie I've seen....in the last year. The "bad" couple just went way to far with the whole crazy thing which just took to much from it.

reply

This movie was too hollow. 4/10

reply

Yeah it was. That's what I was pointing out to the OP.

reply

Wrong. You should be surprised by how high it is. Total piece of garbage.

reply

Engrossing? Hardly. It wasn't even worth the 2 stars I gave it. I'm thinking of lowering it to 1 star. It was a horrible movie.

The movie's problems lie in the screenplay (the performances, production values, and direction are certainly competent or better).

The story was overly derivative of situations and plot points from recent thrillers. Funny Games is often mentioned, but 2009's A Perfect Getaway is also heavily borrowed from.

The movie's politics is heavy-handed, too (oh, no, those bad Poor People will come take what's ours!!!!!!1!!!!! Awful, awful Poor People! They are all crazed killers!!!!!!!1!!!!) One can't help but be annoyed at the protagonists' choice to stay in an indefensible glass (practically) house with only an easily-cut land line and an easily-lost cell phone available in case help is needed.

I agree with the OP, I think it's very underrated. BUT, I have tried to watch this movie before & could not get into it. This time I committed & couldn't take my eyes away. I loved the lighting. I thought it was realistic considering the characters were mourning & just plain out-of-it with grief. It was different because it had a happy ending. Which actually made me smile. Which shocked me.

Couldn't agree more with you. I like this movie a lot. It has really creepy moments, mostly by Rachel Miner.

The part when she imitates Selma Blair when she is in the floor crying and screaming is very creepy and disturbing. Also the part when she is trying on Selma Blair's clothes when "Bobby" was stabbed, that part was so creepy too.

Also when the parents put Brendon in bed, slowly leave the room and the mom waves her hand is very creepy. The blur adds disturbance in that scene.

You are right about the tension, mostly in all the dinner part.

You shouldn't worry about the low ratings. It's a matter of taste. But remember that everyone here is either a director or a writer. And there are a lot of heroes too: "this character made stupid decisions", "why didn't this character do this?", "I had done this or that".
