Why people like him had to die in that un just war?

So in a war where US wanted to control the opium trail and market, there where so many young men who gave there lives, they tell us that they are heroes because they gave their lives for their brothers in arms... I agree that is admirable but in my eyes the true hero would be, if and when one of those men, had told to their officers that they are not going to fight in a war for drug control, I will not let my comrades to go and die, just for some fatass senators get more power and money, I will refuse to accept illegal and unethical orders to massacre village after village so I can corner the opium cartel. That is a true hero in my eyes. All the other are just professionals who did there jobs! Follow unquestionably orders and die if u must. I know my comment might disturb or even aggravate some peeps, but some times the truth is huge pill hard to swallow.

I feel sry for the families that lost persons during wars, it's pure tragedy and a pain unbearable but aren't we all responsible, for allowing fewer and fewer people to control us manipulate us, telling us when we have to give away our kids, fathers, mothers just because its our duty to obey, and if we dont we are unpatriotic, where is the patriotism in letting them die for a false cause? Where is the honor to fight for something that is rotten in the highest levels?

They are brainwashing every soldier, that when u go to war, you dont fight for country or honor or even the orders u received, u fight for the man standing beside you... empty heavy words, if my country didn't order me to be here, I wouldn't need to stand by the side of my fellow comrade watching him die, if there not those orders I wouldn't have to see an ATV blown to pieces with a complete squad inside it... false orders, corrupted federal governments... that's why we lose friends and family. Haven't u tired of all those many unfinished wars that the US has started only for some limited few get some more money (probably billions, some is an understatement).

... so by stating my opinion am getting a label, ok, I guess that's as far as u can use your mind, put labels on peeps with different views on reality than yourself, typical and classical soldier. Good for you m8 and enjoy your "glorious" life.

His whole point is attacking those of us who have served, categorizing us as a bunch of mindless twits who can't think for themselves (Far from the truth) as well as categorizing the War in Afghanistan as the US trying to control the Opium trade when in fact it's about fighting Al Qaeda. (You know, the terrorists who have attacked us on 9/11? Just in case you forgot.)

I don't think that's far from the truth...most servicemen don't question their orders and they don't even reflect on why they did what they did. Kind of like this documentary...if you can call it that. What I notice is that there is never any discussion on what is going on...just complete polarization of these situations.

Also, I don't think he's attacking those who served...there's a difference between begrudging these men and critiquing these men. From what I've read...I don't think he's passing judgement on Michael P. Murphy...he's trying to discuss why we're glorifying what he and people like him are doing.

Well I didn't forget...and if my memory serves me correctly, didn't we already capture the mastermind behind 9/11...Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, didn't we already capture all the co-conspirators to 9/11 and kill the leader of the organization responsible...Osama bin Laden? I'm pretty sure we did...so what the *beep* are we still doing in Afghanistan?

Not to belabor his point but...to a certain extent his suspicions aren't unjustified about the opium trade...since we arrived in 2001...Opium production has gone up in that region.

As many have noted, the U.S. government has, at least at some times in some parts of the world, protected drug operations. (Big American banks also launder money for drug cartels. Indeed, drug dealers kept the banking system afloat during the depths of the 2008 financial crisis. Hell, virtually all the infrastructure in entire major cities in the United States is funded primarily by the drug trade.

But to a certain extent...you're right...it is a conspiracy theory...that maybe is more comfortable for us not believe. I take it with a grain of salt. I don't know if I believe it but I at least accept that it can be true.

You got that from the few paragraphs he wrote? How? He didn't say anything scornful about those who have served...from what at least I saw. He simply stated that those who are under the command of the military fight and die for this unconditional sense of patriotism...with almost no sense of morality or self-reflection. They're pawns, essentially.

I doubt it comes from a liberal source and that it's undeniably bullsh#t. If I were you...I'd consider being more open to different ideas...I don't have...and I'm certain the OP doesn't have any disdain for servicemen but to a certain extent how can you argue that some aren't mindless? How do you explain Abu Ghraib?

Actually I was wondering, during your service in the navy, did u ever had to carry the corpse of your friend from the flames? Did u had to rely his last words to his fam? Did u ever had to testify on court-martial, and at the end to find out that the whole mission was a sham, your friends died for nothing, families lost their persons for nothing!

Sorry all you mindless military drones but no war since WWII has been about freedom just oil and temporary safety. So far all the military has done is bomb the *beep* out of the countries terrorists come from thus making even more young terrorists who would die to destroy the USA. Ever since WWII the military has done nothing but help destroy our liberties for temporary safety. You don't fight for freedom you fight to make the rich richer the poor poorer and decrease the freedoms for those who aren't unconscionably wealthy.
