Karen Gillan is a good choice for that kind of role. If they're serious about rebooting the series, I'd prefer if it went in a direction entirely unrelated to Jack Sparrow or Barbossa or other characters from previous films. That way, we can avoid the fake mystery nonsense about someone's personal possessions having more importance than they actually are.
