Is On Stranger Tides essential canon to watch this film?

Because I've seen the first four, and remember loving the first three, and hating the last one. Some people tell me that this movie rekindles some of the magic of the first three but I've done so well in forgetting what happens in Tides that it's almost at the point where it's erased from my mind. I don't want to ruin it with reminders.
