Serbian nationalism

Instead of making an objective look at the disintegration of Yugoslavia the director rather chose to make a Serbian propaganda movie using footage only from RTS or Serbian radiotelevision, using only serbs for interviews and distorting historical facts. Chetniks, which were as evil and malicious as Ustasa were in Croatia are portrayed here as a bunch of prancing do-good hippies who didn't hurt a fly because they were the victims. I guess it somehow got lost in the translation that their chief Draza Mihailovic's main propaganda consisted of four points 1) make serbian borders and leave only serbian people within it 2)solve the question of muslims (in other words wipe them out) 3) make a plan for radical and quick cleansing or moving of village population with the agenda of making a homogenous serbian state community. 4) Especially have in sight quick and radical cleansing of the cities and filling them with fresh serbian element. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dra%C5%BEa_Mihailovi%C4%87 ) Ever head of "The Great Serbia". Probably never because it never happened which is really good because it's something Hitler tried and failed too. This is what the chetniks were attempting to achieve. Now let's really talk about why Yugoslavia fell apart. The most probable causes are the animosity of different nationalities present along with different religious problems. The loss of a leader who did not prepare the country for what was after such as appointing a follow-up leader or any other political idea which practically gave way to fight for power and to each his own. And last but not the least important. After the second world war seeing how Yugoslavia was a division point between the west and east Europe, basically between communism in SSSR and capitalism or democracy whichever way you want to call it in the west not only did Americans but also some other European nations give money to Yugoslavia but helped in many different ways for this barrier to be able to exist. After the berlin wall fell and soviet union collapsed this need for having an active borderline stopped being necessary the funding also stopped. Without money, basically stricken with hunger having to wait for bread in lines in front of bakeries things needed to change and it was then that Slovenia and Croatia proclaimed independence and thus the rest is history. Obviously, all is not this simple but it let's you put some things in perspective. This movie is not a straight out lie but it is not objective and when a documentary is not objective it stops being a documentary and becomes propaganda, a true shame at that.

Well, my friend cokoholicar first watch the movie, than post here.

1) The director did not use only Serbs for interviews, there are also Albanians, Croatians, Slovenians, Muslims..ordinary people. Also, if you watch very closely (LOL) you will notice that there are cuts from Croatian television HRT1 and others big TV houses and newspapers CBS, CNN.

2) The facts and quotes that are mentioned in the movie are from non Ex-Yu legitimate documents, wich also tells us you did not watch the movie quite well.

Why did NATO bombed Yugoslavia at 1999. ?
As a matter of fact there's a lot of questions i could ask...
You say that the film is propaganda, i say, watch it again and do a little research.
I see you use wiki, but the facts you can find there are free-editable, so any one can type what he wants. Not good for objective research.

"Without money, basically stricken with hunger having to wait for bread in lines in front of bakeries things needed to change and it was then that Slovenia and Croatia proclaimed independence and thus the rest is history. " WHO'S RESPONSABLE FOR THAT ? The people that are couple of years ago lived in harmony and peace ?

At the end If you do not believe in the systematic destruction of any country by IMF and World Banc than pay attention what is going on in Greece, Portugal etc...

I can't say you are 100% wrong, but you are also 2% right, a true shame to you.
P.S. Sorry for my english. :)

1. I'm not going to argue about Chetniks, but the same wikipedia article you are referring to states that "Mihailovic's role in such actions is unclear as there is "...no definite evidence that [he] himself ever called for ethnic cleansing. Instructions to his Montenegrin subordinates commanders, Lasic and Djurisic, which prescribe cleansing actions of non-Serb elements in order to create a Great Serbia have been attributed to Mihailovic; by some historians, but some historians argue that the document was a forgery made by DjuriĊĦic; after he failed to reach Mihailovic; in December of 1941 after the latter was driven out of Ravna Gora by German forces." Again, with no intention to argue about Chetniks, I would say that your statement about Malagurski's portrait of them as "bunch of prancing do-good hippies who didn't hurt a fly because they were the victims" isn't quite ok. As a matter of fact, all he did was calling them royalists, and all Trifunovic said is that they were composed exclusively from Serbs and that they resisted Germans. So don't put words into other people mouths...

2. About your own thoughts about YU falling apart... I'd like to see some references, at least for the "fact" of YU being a borderline funded by US and Europe. That thing about us starving to death without that money sounds more than interesting. When you get the documents, please make the documentary, that's why it's called "documentary". I will be glad to see it...

1. The author of the film is a 22-year old Canadian of Yugoslavian origin, and who even isn't a Serb, but an ethnic Bunyevac. A 'typical Serbian propaganda film' would be more likely to come from a Serbian state institution, interest group or even an ethnic Serb, don't you think?

2. FOOTAGE of RTS (Radio-Television of Serbia) was used, *footage*. RTS indeed was a propaganda machinery during the 90's (but not more of such kind than i.e. CNN or BBS, or contemporary pro-western RTS), but it has one of the richest footage archive in all Balkans. Footage isn't propaganda, its interpretation could be. Many of the footage used wasn't even broadcast in the 90's.
