A complex film about a complex issue...

I watched this film last night and was surprised to see the very divisive posts here on this very complex issue. It seems to me it is far too simple to draw an arbitrary line on one particular aspect of this film (whether it be poverty, public housing, social justice, racial relations, or anything else) then cast the entire film under that view.

It seems to me the filmmakers--whatever their intent--went to great pains to not draw too tight to conclusions, but rather leave the audience with their own interpretive lense and bias to struggle with the weight of the issues at play. While not a great film in a technical sense, they undertook a great task and I appreciate their efforts. This film has challenged me in many ways.

I agree, this film was a very interesting look at how the system can affect those who fall between its crevices. It's amazing how things can turn hellish in just a few years. It was specially interesting to me as a non-American watching from the outside. Truly fascinating. Great little piece of cinema. Don't miss it.
