First your property then your lawn, you're missing the whole point!

When do we draw the line of abuse?

"First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me."

eventually ALL OF US WILL BE CONSIDERED TERRORISTS!

The part about "ALL OF US WILL BE CONSIDERED TERRORISTS" happened much sooner than you might have expected. President Obama (and a bi-partisan Congress) passed the scariest NDAA in American history just four days after your post. They revise the NDAA every year, but now they've literally revised it to mean that anybody the government doesn't like, including American citizens, can be labeled a terrorist and held without trial. Forever.

Let's not forget that Anwar Al-Awlaki was assassinated on order of President Obama... by a robot (drone) nonetheless. The man was an American citizen, although far from a model citizen. And although he was certainly sympathetic to terrorist activities, going so far to as to encourage and incite jihad, he was never explicitly a terrorist himself. Scary stuff indeed.

Considering the ELF are a bunch of Jackboot-esque, violence-crazed terrorist dirtbags who use assault, vandalism, arson, death threats and home invasions to push a view that is altogether sollipsistic, unpopular and extremist onto anyone who dare think differently than they do, Niemollers overused quote far better applies to them.

If the ELF whackjob piece of *beep* and their pissant apologists don't like being called "terrorists", then maybe they should stop using tactics of terror and violence to try and force people to adopt their misinformed, science-hating cultist beliefs.

reply

I'm not going to defend the actions of the ELF in any way, as I don't condone their methods, but the word "terrorist" is thrown around so often these days that it no longer seems to have any meaning at all. If we truly applied the word, in its modern standard, to every person who meets the criteria, then common criminals, such as bank robbers, that do not get charged as terrorists, should be charged as terrorists. If a terrorist is simply one who spreads terror, then almost every criminal in the world is a terrorist.

But we know that they're not. So let's all stop participating in the over-usage of this word.

Ah, classic slippery slope argument fallacy. Go take out a logic book sometime. Loose correlation does not imply necessary causation.

reply

Absolutely!
The 'authorities' had to stretch the definition of terrorist to its extreme to call these ELFers 'terrorists'. Lives were NEVER endangered when they took actions. And, they have been using this and similar convictions to strengthen their use of calling other protestors 'terrorists'.
You're next when you want to protest that the City/County can't cut that lovely tree on the boulevard in front of your house, just because it blocks someone else's view, it's causing structural damage, or the city decided to put in 'new' ones. (this already happens)
I am an EarthFirster, in spirit; I have always supported the actions of stopping the 'authorities' from abusing the people's rights and domain.
F_ the FBI! Go find some REAL terrorists! Or, are you afraid those kind will actually fight back with weapons, and kill you?
