MISFITS

Will anyone be playing early Glenn Danzig and company in this movie??? I hope at least Glenn's in it, 70s Glenn. That would be the raddest!!

are they "relevant" enough in regards to the history of CBGBs? they didn't have a following back then, like they had after Metallica made them popular.

reply

no they are not relevant. I doubt they were mentioned at all in either book I have (Please Kill Me and This Ain't No Disco). A ton of bands played there AFTER the high water mark of '77... doesn't mean they deserve to be in this film.

The Misfits (1977 - 1983) only played CB's a handful of times. They played Irving Plaza and Max's Kansass City much more it seems.

reply

Bobby Steele says they were banned from CBGB and never performed there.

They played their first gig's there and were regulars for some time. They also played a part in trying to save the club at the benefit concert. What distorted planet are you getting your info? Any idiot with a finger and a search engine could have found that out before opening their mouth and proving they are an idiot.

reply

The film is set before the Misfits existed.
I would hardly call 77 the high water mark... although I know many people who think CBGB went downhill after they stopped hanging out.

In what universe did Metallica put Misfits on the map?

"I said no camels, that's five camels, can't you count?"

reply

I'm sorry, WHAT?
Where do you come from, that you think Metallica made Misfits known?
Are you 10 years old?
Glenn Danzig is the only one Metallica, Jerry Only and Michael Graves should thank.
Please excuse my terrible redaction, english is not my native language.

According to Glenn Danzig, Hilly Kristal didn't like the Misfits and wouldn't let them play CBs. The Misfits' home base club in Manhattan was Max's Kansas City.

The Misfits were a seminal hard core band that appeared later. This movie really explores the seminal punk bands who performed in CBGB closer to the time the club formed. I do make a comment in general about the bands not included in this film in my review I posted on this site (Oct 3). Unfortunately, many of even those original groups aren't in this cut.

The Misfits I have read opened for the Damned at CBGB's, and played there a few times. Leading to the fiasco of the Misfits showing up at Dave Vanian's door unannounced in England a while later. The Misfits started out as a minimalist avant garde act, then went into 50's inspired punk, then went more hardcore in 882-83, they started in 77
