Could've been so much better

I used to go to CBGB back in the early 1990s to the early 2000s. Probably been there more than I can recall. From what I recall, the bathroom really wasn't that gross as it was portrayed in the film. And most of the bands I saw there were never heard from again. I do recall the place smelling like old beer, but that is just my memory.

A friend of mine worked there. He said the actress who played Alan Rickman's daughter was seriously miscast. If you do a simple Google search, you will know what I mean. I guess she wanted someone beautiful, a Twilight Actress, a real babe to portray her. Revisionism at its height! He also said that certain family members would routinely go there and take money out of the cash register. I think the true CBGB story needs to be told.

Although I wasn't bored with this movie, I can't help but think this movie was a missed opportunity. The cartoons didn't work. To me it felt like those effects were added after the movie was made. It is like they didn't completely trust the story and they had to help you along in a forced quasi-cute way. It was more tell than show. The only cartoon scene that did work was the stabbing scene of one of the Dead Boys.

This movie's subject requires the Sergio Leone treatment. I hope someone makes an HBO series about the 1970s Punk movement when the dust settles.

I would even be happy to see a 5-part documentary on the subject by Ken Burns. I still think Sid and Nancy is the best movie ever made about Punk. God, why didn't Alex Cox make better movies? Pity.

I we t there pretty regularly in the late 70's and early 80's and trust me, the bathrooms were that gross.

It was a dive and it was great. Best music anywhere and that's why people flocked there. Many many musicians got their start there, you're just too young to know.

You are right, the place was probably better in the 1970s than the 1990s. Most things in New York were better and grittier before my time. Still, the bathroom wasn't as gross as it was portrayed in the film. I used it frequently because I drank too much beer.

Agreed, this movie should have turned out a lot better than what it did.
