Formulaic and Gimmicky

How much (brain-damaged) Freddie Rodriguez, dog poop, cockroaches and guys dropping their pants can one stand to watch, in the span of 1 hour 40 minutes? Those things, shock value and caricatures of Punk icons is all this movie had to offer.

Let's not call this realistic or historically accurate! It was about "spectacle," plain and simple. These days, that's the goal of most every movie.

It was rather awful, I agree. A 1 or 2 star movie on Netflix but Alan Rickman brings it up to a 4 because he's awesome. He could read the phonebook and make it interesting.

He's good and all, but I thought he was terribly miscast in this role. I mean, at least TRY to sound like a New Yorker (who grew up in New Jersey.) It was just odd. Though, like the OP said, this wasn't a movie about historical accuracy.

Which is too bad. CBGBs in the mid and late 70s was a fascinating point in American Cultural history.
