can a rock movement be born today?

This movie was great-apart from the endless comic-strip transitions.Being 23 years old,i haven't experienced something like this,a new "wave" of music. It's kind of sad to think that the chance of something like this happening nowadays is very slim. The internet has destroyed the communities that formed around the music those days and the corporate side of it is worse than ever, thus producing mostly garbage.

You could say that dubstep is a new thing, but,(aside from taste reasons)it doesnt have the characteristics of the previous "movements".

It's whatever. But a rock song can get 1 million views within a few months on YouTube still. That's interesting. And I don't care the genre of music, if it makes me feel amazing when I listen to it, then boom. Awesome.

The way the music industry has changed, maybe not. If you want to be heard you make a youtube video and try to make it go viral and get your 15 minutes. Bands have a hard time being heard these days because every band even the bad ones have just as much access as the good one's with the internet. You can put out your own music out without a major label because distribution is done with the click of a mouse and an internet connection.

How many more new sounds can be created? I know music has endless ways it can be done but what new wave sound will be next that people will like that hasn't been done already??? That's the thing.

Seattle in the 90's Detroit in the 60's, punk in NYC in the 70's, what will we see in 2020???

I agree. We are living in a fashion is cyclical world but once the industry self destructs and collapses, a new sound will grow from it. I hope.

Once the cheesy 'Greatest Star in the World' shows are completely gone from our vernacular, then young people will display the drive to create a NEW WAVE OF MUSIC.
Of course it can happen, is happening, but bull $hit 'make me a star shows' have no use for it.
But it's coming...Soon, as these shows are now quickly losing their appeal and their viewership. Thank God!

Good music is out there, but there's no one promoting it. They're only promoting scheiss at this point. Soundcloud is where most of the musicians are.

I feel like kids today are so pressured into growing up fast and becoming consumers. That and being bombarded with advertising musically (American Idol, Pop stars made intentionally for marketing purposes). That paralleled with the fact that kids sporting events (for example) try and take any winners or losers away to avoid anyone getting upset. I believe it creates a general malaise in our societies youth. Winning, and maybe especially losing can create creativity and life lessons which often birth something new or beautiful from each generation. Now it seems anything old is either seen as uncool or just imitated without any real feel of newness or originality. There is good music out there but I think the 90's was really the last great generation in so many ways. Hopefully I'm wrong though.

It's happening quite a bit in England at the moment, since we (British teens) aren't really interested in chart music like Taylor swift so local/indie bands with more experimental music are pretty popular (at least, this is true where I live)

Can't really speak for America but from what I've seen American teens are a lot more obsessed with chart stuff and fame

Thank goodness for you young Brits. I actually heard someone recently said Taylor Swift was the voice of her generation. The end it nigh!
