Ironic

I find it really ironic that a girl that started a band (with no talent except for being a loud mouth) and wearing skimpy outfits trying to shock people, goes on to do the exact opposite of feminism which is to marry a rich mainstream uber successful musician to take care of her for the rest of her life. She is all talk and no walk, she is living in the 1950's with her rich hubby that pays for everything. Believe me, she had it all planned out from the beginning. She wanted to be rich and she states it clearly in the documentary. She married well and other than that she is the pathetic. She can't even read and comes across as trying to be intellectual but she isn't.

Who the *beep* cares? She changed alot of peoples lives and all you bitch about is that she fell in love and married someone with money? You can be a good role model and still live a life not crashing on friends couches.

reply

Doubt she changed any lives for the better, manipulative crazy chicks don't tend to do that.

reply

First of all, it's a lot not alot. Secondly, I am not complaining about her falling in love. It's just a coincidence that she has a fake accent (she never grew up where that accent originated) and has an obvious love for money. Congratulations to her success marrying money. She is not a good role model and she is the antithesis of what a feminist is. If she practiced what she preaches she would have made it on her own without marrying money.

reply

If you actually watched this, then you would know why she talked with a valley girl accent. And I'm just guessing, but you're a white male, like me? We do not have a final say in what feminism should be. I do find your criticism some what forced. And pointing out that I misspelled a word doesn't weaken my point.

She stated from the film that her friends and her got the valley girl handbook to adopt this accent like a rich girl. She achieved what she set out to do (get rich) and has not lost the accent. My point is that she is the ultimate hypocrite. Women should be independent and strong. Then she marries someone that artistically treat women like toys and she is now taken care of by him.

reply

And if you actually listened you would know that it after a while became a statement. So being married to a successful musician means she can't be strong and independent? Is everything really measured in wealth and not in what someone achieve? Would it have been better for her to be sick and alone than actually get help from the person she loves? She's not a hypocrite because it's not up to you to demand her to stand up to any of your critique of her personality or way of life. I know several women who, thanks to Kathleen Hanna, are doing what they want to do without feeling the need to defend themselves from critics like you. Just grow up and start giving *beep* to the ones that really deserve it.

reply

Is English your second language? I can't understand your post. You have to do better than grow up.

reply

Yes, it is. You understand it perfectly well, you just don't have any good arguments to support your hate of a woman who have done nothing against you.
You have an unhealthy obsession with trying to prove Kathleen Hanna is a hack, but you haven't done more than bash her for getting married, and you have no proof that she did it for money. Come back when you're ready to actually discuss and not just try to win points by attacking someone grammar.

reply

*beep* like you are the reason feminism exists.

reply

This ↑.

reply

Exactly. A white man saying what feminism is and should be is hilarious. And pathetic.

I think it's sad that that's what you got out of it when the movie pretty clearly explained the stuff but it went over your head or maybe you weren't paying attention. She didn't wear many skimpy outfits at all. Not sure how you say that. When she did, there was a point to it. Maybe you were too busy staring at her chest and not listening to the commentary. Focus, dude. Two of the big points made and this is common with contemporary feminism, but often not articulated as well as it was here, are:

1) Putting normal female bodies out there as being sexy and beautiful in order to combat the mainstream perception that you need to be insanely skinny in order to be beautiful which leads many young girls into eating disorders and self-esteem problems.

2) She puts her body out there with the clear message that it is HER body, not yours or anybody else's. That way she owns her own sexuality and encourages other women to do the same. Many men (and women) throughout history have felt very threatened by female sexuality and have actively tried to suppress that aspect of femininity as a way of controlling women. I suspect you may be one of those men who is threatened by female sexuality. This is why Kathleen and many feminists write words on their bodies to try to reclaim those word. People use words like that derogatorily to try to make women feel bad about being sexual when men's sexuality is celebrated. If a woman does want to sleep with men, it's her choice, not yours.

She wrote "Slut" on her knuckles foreseeing what misogynist like the OP would say.

reply

All of what you wrote proves that you haven't seen the documentary. Or that you are stupid.
So a feminist have to wear suits and stay still. I bet you think that girls wearing short skirts are asking to get raped.
Also, you don't know *beep* about punk music. Or love.

You understand nothing about feminism. Or about Kathleen Hanna.

reply

You wouldn't happen to be her publicist by any chance? I am literally laughing at your response.

reply

Feminism is also the right to choose how you live your life (and this is what my 13 year old daughter said when I read your post to her).
