Their projected profits are a joke

They just throw those numbers around and end the episode saying "Bam another 5 grand right there", when they actually haven't sold anything.
Besides, they over price almost everything they find.
Overall this show is a complete joke.

yeah also funny when they look at a few boxes an give them a value then lump alot more boxes together with them claiming they have the same stuff in it an the same value.

Channel Six News, they'll finger anything with a pulse!

reply

Yep, it's pretty ridiculous. Even when items are indeed valuable, they still have to find buyers and even if they do find buyers people, are likely not willing to pay what the asking price.
I don't take Moe too seriously, because in spite of, apparently, being a doctor, he is basically the clown in Storage Wars Texas, but he's especially prone to over pricing things.

I admit I have watched quite few episodes of this show (Texas and LA), and I used to enjoy it, but nowadays I'm just sick of it. It's one of those shows I'd watch when nothing else worth watching was on, but now I prefer to keep the TV off than watching this.

Yeah, even if something could theoretically be sold at the price that's named, you'd have to find someone to buy it from you to get your profit. They talk about things that are worth a hundred bucks or more, but how likely are you to find someone who has the money and is ready to move on something like that now?! You could have something worth five thousand dollars or more, you could have a pristine quality pre-CBS Fender Stratocaster, but you'll have to wait for someone to show who is that desperate to own something like that.

Or you could just put it on E-bay. That might work. 

Also, they factor in ZERO overhead. Apparently these people get free gas to drive to all these auctions, free storage space for all of their crap, etc...

Dave is the worst at that, windows 7 software for $100 a piece(maybe $50 if you can find a buyer, you can't)??? Older rosetta stone for $200(you can get new for $190 from rosetta stone).

Dave, I just watched an episode and seen Dave estimating what things are worth, it's laughable.

He priced a 70's reel to reel for $40. I couldn't see anybody in a million years paying $40 for that.

reply

Yeah, I've just seen one episode where Darrell estimated that one of those cartridge camping stoves that you can buy brand new for $20 was worth $35!

Just saw an episode from 2016, used beat up looking 18" computer monitor. Jared "couple hundred bucks"

No, $50, tops. Is this show now purposely trying to turn the audience off to it? I actually got embarrassed for the show and had to change the channel.

I haven't watched the show for a couple years or so. I thought it was history until I saw a commercial for a new season. Binged on some episodes from VOD. It seemed to me they were being more realistic <for the most part> on estimating the value. It seemed like in the earlier shows, it was worse. But I still see the overestimations going on <like the monitor for $220 - crazy>.

Got sucked into watching a marathon of this. The prices they toss out are ludicrous. What's more, it would take YEARS to sell a lot of this crap. Especially when they clear out a unit of smalls. Years and years. That's space taken up in your shop. Trucking it around. Whatever you're spending to list things. You bleed money out all over the place just trying to unload this crap.
