BORING BORING BORING

This Canadian version of Top Chef is so freakin boring! Top Chef is such an amazing show here in the US but for some reason it doesn't gel as well in Canada. None of the contestants are interesting, the first two challenges lacked creativity and the show's host has no personality at all. Even the judges are boring. I can tell they have a very limited budget too. The production values are almost nonexistent. It looks like a local news cast from the 90's. I'm so disappointed :-( I can't wait until the original US show comes back for a new season.

Maybe they could add more car chases and explosions.

reply

At least an explosion would add some excitement. Their personalities are already dead, so no worries there.

Because the US version has car chases and explosions?

reply

Haha, I actually really like it. The contestants don't piss me off like the American version (I like a good handful of them), and I like the focus on the food.

reply

I agree wholeheartedly. There's so much focus on all the conflict, drama and cooking twists in the US version that you really don't get to see what the contestants are cooking and what the judges think about their food.

Top Chef Canada reminds me of the first seasons of the original Top Chef before they decided to split it up into different sections, many of which are only available online, and which are region protected so that many of us cannot see them.

This is Mediocre Chef.

reply

Is that because the candian version focuses more on food kitchen skills and evolving peoples abilities rather than forced drama and production manipulated conflicts between morons who are cast for their personalities rather than their skills?

The last season of Top Chef (Top Chef Texas) was so forced and predictable that I quit watching it after three or four episodes because I couldn't stand the forced drama and obviously transparent attempts by the producers to manipulate the audience.

The biggest difference between TC Canada and the last couple of US seasons....

I actually care who stays as opposed to wishing they would just finally get rid of <fill in the blank(s)>.

Well, that and Lisa Ray. She is unbelievably gorgeous.

reply

I agree with OP but mainly because I think the chefs are no where near the standard of the chefs in the US version. Also I just don't like the feel of the show, it feels very cheap to me.

reply

I agree with you...and I'm Canadian!

For some reason, I prefer the American versions to shows like this - Top Chef, Amazing Race, Chopped, Top Model...I think it is because of the drama and the contestants (like you said)and just the fact that we're trying a bit too hard to be like our American counterparts (and falling just a bit short). I'll still watch these shows, however, if not just to compare and see how things pan out.

Oh, and let's not forget Mark McEwan's shameless promotion of his grocery store, which pretty much seems like a store for pretentious Gourmet wannabees
