When Paul Giamatti mentions his mother wouldn't let him watch Space Ghost I thought he would have been in his 30s when Coast to Coast aired, and too young for the original series. Interesting reveal later on.

His character looks to be born in the late 50's early 60's so he was the perfect age to be watching Space Ghost in it's original run. Even if he was younger, I remember watching Space Ghost re-runs and I was born in 73. So your assessment makes absolutely no sense.

He's referring to Space Ghost Coast to Coast, which started airing on Comedy Central in 1994. It's a fair assumption to make on the OP's part, considering who the intended audience for this film is.
But I agree, Giamatti's character could have been referring to the original '60s cartoon, not the Comedy Central one. Although, the latter is most likely what most people that see this movie are familiar with.
Yeah but come on really? He couldn't make that distinction? I am familiar with both shows and knew that he was referring to the original run. His age should have given it away. And if he didn't know that the Space Ghost character from coast to coast was from a different show that that entire show's jokes must have gone over his head.

Giamatti was born in '67, so he would have been an infant during the original series, he would have been 27 during Coast to Coast, which is too old for his mom to not let him watch something. It made more sense when it was revealed that he was actually an older person the entire time, which clarifies that he was referring to the original series
