Ending. (spoiler)

Just finished watching an interesting plot about a woman living a double life.

How do think the the breaks fail. Was it a mechanical problem or by the Stadi agent. If the former would feel like an easy out to end the film

reply

Just watched the ending again. I now notice a car following Vera/Katrine from the airport. I assume it's the Stasi and they are the ones who set her brakes to malfunction

reply

Yes, if you notice that she is being followed then you understandthat she knows that she will never get to the police (let alone to Cuba). And that did make it a great ending.

Loved this film!

Not sure though she knew the brakes had been tampered with, nor that her car from the airport was followed. We saw a car following her back from the airport, so we knew then that the Stasi knew she had not boarded the plane and was headed home.

Her reaction when she stepped on the brakes on the curve on her way to the police station left me with the impression that it was a shock to her that the brakes did not work.

She did mean to go to the police station and turn herself in, from the way it was presented.

That scene of her stamping on the brakes repeatedly and in panic mode did not tell me she knew she'd been 1) followed and 2) her car sabotaged.

All I could think was she's driving a Volvo -- the safest car on the road even if the brakes are sabotaged. When does a Volvo burst into flames after a little wreck like that? Also, surely she should have known the agents would retaliate if she failed to get on the airplane for Cuba. Good movie but definitely a weak ending.

This was the only ending possible. It's not like a happy ending was available to her.

Of course the car had been tampered with. And I think she *knew* it was. It doesn't really explain her panic though. The crash didn't kill her, and I think she managed to get out of the car and start all over again. Somewhere else. Thought then they wouldn't have discovered a bosy, so maybe not ;)
